Phonics Sound Mats

To help you support your child in their phonics learning, here are the Phase 3 and Phase 5 sounds. By knowing these sounds, your child will feel more confident in tackling reading the real and pseudo words.

If your child can read words which include these sounds, please write them down in your child’s reading journal so they can be awarded extra house points!

Mrs Hay & Mrs Wallace 🙂

Next month Year 1 children will be taking the phonics screening assessment.

Here are some YouTube videos which may help your child reading real and pseudo words similar to the ones they will need to read in the screening.

Happy reading!

Autism Awareness Week Prize Winners!!

I would like to say a big Thank You to all the children and teachers at Green Top for the fantastic work they completed to celebrate World Autism Week during Aspiration Week on the theme of “It’s OK to be Different!”.

We shared stories, learnt how to support a friend with autism and learnt that we a re all different – and that’s OK!

The class activities inspired one year 5 boy to write about his own personal experiences and then share it in assembly!

As a result of our activities, we won a prize from TTS Group – an education supplier – of £150 of resources to support communication and sensory needs! A fantastic prize that will be put to very good use!!

If anyone has any questions about Autism or would like more information, please contact Mrs Graves in school

Ava’s Award-Winning Dragon!

Well done Ava!

Ava’s amazing design has been selected as a winner from lots of entries from all over Doncaster, in the Doncaster Book Award ‘Design-a-Dragon’ Competition. Ava put lots of effort into her Dragoon design at book club and at home and her design has been chosen as a winner by the Book Award Committee! Ava has now been invited to a ceramic arts day with a professional artist during half term, where she will be able to bring her design to life and make her dragon design out of clay!

The Green Top Hub!!

The newest  area in school was installed over the summer holidays in the KS1 outdoor area. ‘The Hub’ consists of the ‘Learning Hub’ and the ‘Nurture Hub.’

The Learning Hub is an area where children, from across the school, get extra support in their  learning for English and Maths.

The Nurture Hub is where we support the child’s social and emotional needs, in a relaxing and calming environment.

Both Hubs have been busy since term started and we are looking forward to working with more children as the year goes on.

The Nurture Hub: Mrs Fitzpatrick, Mrs Rafferty, Mrs Dewsnap and Mrs Dale.

Green Top’s Pop-Up Chocolate Shop

A big thank you to all the parent’s, carers, family and friends who came to the Year 3 and 4 Pop-Up Chocolate Shop at school today. It was wonderful to have so much support – I hope you had the opportunity to taste your purchases!

The children have worked so hard over the last few months to design and create all aspects of the products – from the packaging production to the chocolate creation!

Well done to Kane and Megan for writing and presenting such a great introduction to the event – you both spoke with confidence and clarity in front of so many people!

Finally, a big thank you to all the staff, who have supported the children in their chocolate exploits over the last few weeks – Green Top really has resembled Willy Wonka’s factory at times – the children could not have done it without your assistance!

Water Cycle in a Bag!!

How do Class 10 learn about the water cycle? By creating it in a plastic bag of course! We have created perfect miniature climates inside clear plastic backs and attached them to the window.

As the sun shines through the window, it heats the water allowing it to evaporate into water vapour. As it cools, it condenses back into water droplets – in a clear demonstration of the water cycle!! See if you see it working!
