Year 3 – RE: How do Christian communities use visual art?

Today in RE, we continued our learning about symbolism and art in religion by focusing on the use of visual arts by the Christian community. We learned that most Christians find it acceptable to create images of Jesus and other individuals from the bible, however some other religions do not. We looked at the images below and shared our thoughts and feelings about them with each other, showing great mutual respect and tolerance for those with different beliefs and thoughts to our own. Well done, everyone!

Dress up donations!

In the run up to Christmas, there will be performances across school which require costumes. We appreciate these can be costly and so ask if anyone has any old Nativity style costumes hidden away somewhere that could be donated to school. Year 3/4 in particular would be extremely grateful for any larger costumes for the older children to support our special Christmas performance.

Thank you in advance!

Year 3 – Science Experiment – What is a light source?

Today, Year 3 learnt all about different light sources and how to categorise materials depending on how much light they allow to travel through them. One of our experiments involved peeping into a dark box to see if we could see the object hidden inside … if we could then it was emitting light and was a light source but if not then it wasn’t a light source.

Why not ask us about different natural or man-made light sources? Or, see if we can show you different opaque, translucent and transparent materials around the home?

KS2 Anti Bullying Performance

This afternoon, KS2 also enjoyed a performance all around bullying with a focus on cyberbullying. It was great fun with lots of fun songs and acting but full of meaningful content. We were also super surprised when Mrs Fitz made her acting debut!

Year 3 – Message for Parents

Please be aware of the following for Autumn 2 in Year 3:

  • G-Block is now on Wednesdays
  • There is no XP Outdoors this half-term
  • PE is still on a Thursday afternoon.
  • Earrings MUST be removed for all PE lessons (children are responsible for this so if your child cannot remove their earrings on their own please ensure that they do not wear them on this day)

Thank you for your continued support, Mrs Dutton and Miss Cooper.

Year 3 – RE: What is Spirituality?

In Religious Education last week, Year 3 were exploring what the word ‘spirituality’ meant and how different people express or experience their spirituality in different ways. Mrs Dutton and Miss Cooper were absolutely blown away by the depth of the children’s thinking and ideas around this huge topic … what thoughtful and brilliant children we have in our classrooms! We looked at different images of spiritual experiences and thought about the role that symbols play in different aspects of spirituality and religion, with many children identifying different symbols that meant something important to them for different reasons.
