Collaboration Critique Central

On Friday, Class 7 were very busy collaborating and critiquing in our maths lesson.

Each time we try peer critique the children just grow in confidence and can undertake the task better than the last. The children were specific, kind and helpful and totally…BRILLIANT! Well done Class 7!

Lincoln Castle

Today the sun shone down on Year 2 at Lincoln Castle. The children had a wonderful day at knight school, walking the castle walls and exploring what it would have been like at a real medieval banquet. The children were a credit to the school with their impeccable behaviour and lovely manners when interacting with the general public.

The trip inspired us all to get stuck into our new theme ‘What secrets can the castle wall tell us?’ and we can’t wait to learn more in the coming weeks.

A big thank you to all of the parents and grandparents who kindly gave up their valuable time to support the children’s learning on the trip.

Spelling Superstars!

Today we competed in class to write as many common exception words correctly in 6 minutes.

 

In 3rd place was Thomas with 62 correct spellings

In 2nd place was Isobel with 63 correct spellings

and 1st place goes to Neve with 65 correct spellings.

 

Well done to all of our superstar spellers and to the rest of the class for trying their best! 🙂

Incredible Castles with Scrapstore

What an amazing day! KS1 have been so busy working alongside artists from Scrapstore in Hull. Today each class created large scale castles out of scrap materials that would normally be thrown away by factories in the area. These castles will now be used as break out areas in our new fan dabby dozie immersive classrooms. We have learnt that great things can be created with recyclable materials, we worked as a team and had lots of FUN!

Paul Klee inspired amazing art!

Today in Class 7 as part of Arts week, we recreated Paul Klee’s Senecio using oil pastels and water colour. All of our paintings are incredible and they made Mrs Hay and Miss Rhodes smile a lot! We are very exited to display them in our beautiful classroom.

Poems, Potatoes and Pants! A day at the Doncaster Book Awards!

A brilliant time was had by members of the Green Top KS2 Book Club today at the Doncaster Book Award Finale, held at the Dome.We have been reading, blogging and voting for the books all year and today was when we discovered the winners!DBA5 Doncaster Book Award

 

 

Arriving early, we had time to practise making lots of noise with our home-made shakers and then the fun started…….

Liz Millions, an illustrator and writer, gave us a very entertaining crash course into how to draw imaginary creatures like dragons and unicorns. Starting with a potato or baked bean shape, she gave us tips on how to create fabulous cartoon characters. Just by changing the eyes and the mouth, she demonstrated how to completely transform a picture – and all done with her unique, hilarious sense of humour!

Joshua (call him Josh) Seigal was up next! He entertained us with his brilliant, interactive poems about chicken, his dog and how he ‘doesn’t like poetry’! We learnt lots about rhythm and how to perform poetry and it was great how he got us all joining in. He was then kind enough to sign our books and pose for a photograph with us!

In the afternoon, after a second ‘slot’ by Liz Millions (Teddy Bears and Pirates this time!), we were delighted to welcome Philip Ardagh, the’ 2 Metres Tall, bearded, international best-selling children’s author’ to the stage. His wacky style had us howling with laughter – especially when he told us the story of his second-hand (sorry ‘second-bottom) pants that he was forced to wear.

Finally, the winners of this year’s awards were announced. Congratulations go to Primary List winner, Julian Clary, for ‘The Bolds’; Secondary List winner, Amy Alward for ‘The Potion Diaries’; and Roald Dahl’s Revolting Rhymes, winner of the poetry list.

Race against the bomb!

Today we had our Friday spelling challenge ‘Race against the bomb!’

Everyone worked so hard and earned 5 house points each for their efforts.

The spelling champions today were:

Thomas in 3rd place with 66 spellings, Isobel & Neve in joint 2nd with 67 spelling and Ryan in 1st place with 70 spellings!

Well done! 🙂

Super Spellers!

Today in Class 7, we have been racing against the timer to spell our Common Exception Words. The top 3 winners were…

Charlie in 1st place with 83 spellings, Thomas in 2nd place with 79 spellings and Emily coming a close third with 76 spellings in 5 minutes. WOW!

Great Start to The Book Fair

The book fair opened on Friday morning  and it was lovely to see so many children excited about buying a new book!

There is a great selection of books at very reasonable prices – made even cheaper with the World Book Day token, that gives £1 off!

The Book Fair is on until Wednesday after school – come and buy a book and raise funds for school!
