Phonics Sound Mats

To help you support your child in their phonics learning, here are the Phase 3 and Phase 5 sounds. By knowing these sounds, your child will feel more confident in tackling reading the real and pseudo words.

If your child can read words which include these sounds, please write them down in your child’s reading journal so they can be awarded extra house points!

Next month Year 1 children will be taking the phonics screening assessment.

Here are some YouTube videos which may help your child reading real and pseudo words similar to the ones they will need to read in the screening.

Happy reading!

Year 1 World Book Day

Don’t we look BOOKtastic? We are having a fabulous time all dressed up as our favourite characters.

WE LOVE WORLD BOOK DAY!

Collaborative phonics…

The children all worked so hard last week in phonics and loved working in child led circles to write as many ‘igh’ trigraph words as they could as a team.

Ava’s Award-Winning Dragon!

Well done Ava!

Ava’s amazing design has been selected as a winner from lots of entries from all over Doncaster, in the Doncaster Book Award ‘Design-a-Dragon’ Competition. Ava put lots of effort into her Dragoon design at book club and at home and her design has been chosen as a winner by the Book Award Committee! Ava has now been invited to a ceramic arts day with a professional artist during half term, where she will be able to bring her design to life and make her dragon design out of clay!

Ava and her winning dragon!

Congratulations Ava – I’m sure you’re going to have an amazing time!

Dante and Dexter in phonics…

Dante and Dexter worked so hard to use their phonics to write sentences with the ‘oa’ digraph. They remembered to include capital letters, finger spaces and full stops. Well done boys! Excellent phonics work!

Incredible Imitate

Bradley, Harry and Ellie all went to visit Mr Butler today to show off their amazing imitate writing of the story Beegu. Mr Butler and I are so proud of you all! Well done!

A wonderful week…

This week in Class 6, we have been reading the story ‘Beegu’ and spent lots of time comprehending and inferring the text. Today, we got to read the complete story and create some Talk4Writing symbols in collaborative groups. The children thoroughly loved the book and worked brilliantly sharing beautifully together.

The children in my phonics group have been working so hard this week on reading and writing words with the zz, ch, qu and ur digraph. They have particularly loved hunting outside for words, finger writing with paint and even writing on the carpet in chalk. Keep up the hard work! ๐Ÿ™‚

WOW writing!

Lucy-May, Ollie, Harlow, James, Dante and Jacob knocked my socks off with their amazing instructions for how to make animal biscuits. They all tried incredibly hard and were given a big thumbs up from Mrs Ogle when they visited her to show off their fabulous work.ย Well done everybody! I’m very proud of you! ๐Ÿ™‚
