Recently, Trinity Academy launched a geography competition for the Y5/6 to create a hybrid creature and explain how it had adapted to suit its rainforest environment.

Today the Year 6 children were given the chance to speak to our expert, Susan Durant. Susan very kindly volunteered to come into school and give the children an insight into what it has been like to work throughout the pandemic. From the beginning, Susan was one of a group of hard-working volunteers who did their utmost to provide meals and packages for the most vulnerable people within our community. The children were fully engaged with some of the stories that Susan had for them and had plenty of questions to follow. Having reflected with the Year 6 children afterwards, I would like to say how thankful we all are to Susan, not only for coming in a speaking to us all today but for the hard work and dedication she and others have put into helping the local community over the last year. Thank you!
During our English starter today, we focused on hyphenated words to avoid ambiguity. We looked at different examples of how hyphens can change the meaning of words.

This Friday, Friday 30th April, marks the beginning of the Captain Tom 100 Challenge which will continue until Bank Holiday Monday 3rd May.Â

On Friday we had such a fun PE session! Our PE for this term is athletics so last week we focused on long jump and perfecting our long jump techniques. We also practised starting our run up from different starting positions which built on our learning about sprinting from the week before!

In our English hook lesson today, we looked at what ‘inspirational’ means and who is inspirational to us.
Each group looked at a different story of an ‘ordinary child with an extraordinary story’ and we learned all about 12 year old boy who opened a school in Lebanon, a young boy who invented Braille, a young girl who survived a plane crash in the rainforest, and finally a boy who created in invention to help save the oceans from plastic pollution! Wow! Some truly inspirational people!

I am beyond proud of Crew Knowles and how hard they are working on developing their long division skills. It is such a tricky concept but the children have been grappling with it and are really growing in confidence! It is lovely to see just how proud they are of themselves when they get the answer right! Well done guys, you are truly working hard and getting smart at the same time!
 
As part of Hook Week, Year 6 because photographers today!
Before taking pictures, we looked at the different camera angles that can be used to create images. These included: low angles, high angles, eye-level angles, bird’s eye view angles and tilted angles!
I have to say that the photos that were taken were brilliant and really blew all of the adults away! Watch out for the upcoming video which will showcase some of the children’s beautiful work!
