Class 8’s wonderful first week back!!!

This morning, year 2 went into Thorne and sang some of our beautiful crew songs. They were amazing and we got some awesome feedback from the public. We then walked down finkle street handing out keyrings that we had made, just to make people smile!

This afternoons water fight was also amazing! We had so much fun and got very wet!!! I hope the children have enjoyed today as much as I have…have a wonderful weekend!!! X x x

Year 3 – Being Good Crew Members in our Local Community (during FWB)

In Year 3, our first week back has been ALL about exploring what makes a good crew member because ‘if we get crew right, we get everything right!’ so on Wednesday, we thought about how we could be good crew members in our local communities – both within school and beyond! Then, to put this into action we went out and about to litter pick in Thorne Memorial Park. We even found a little bit of time to play and rest, and to take in the beautiful boards there made by last years’ Year3/4 children … who knows where our beautiful work will end up this year?! The children were a real credit to us all and we were so proud of their beautiful behaviour out in the community – great job boys and girls!

Y3 visit to the Cenotaph

Today, Year 3 were excited to visit Thorne Memorial Park once again. This time, to meet up with our friends from the Victoria Cross Trust who were steam washing the cenotaph in order to restore its original splendour. Unfortunately, the steam cleaner wasn’t quite working during our visit so we didn’t get to see it in action but Keith, who we worked with back in Autumn term, has kindly shared some videos of the washer in all its working glory! (see below)

We’re sure you will agree that the before & after shows an amazing transformation. A huge shout out to the VC Trust and the amazing work that they do!

Year 5 Acts of Service!

Year 5 spent this morning out and about in the community, litter picking and delivering ‘Thank you’ notes to people who help us! Some of us were extremely lucky to be invited into the Fire Station for a look around! This ties in perfectly with our Transition guiding question “How can our Crew be strengthened by acts of service to others?“…bring on our Campout to end a perfect day!

Class 7 – Superstar Carer Award!

A huge well done goes to our very kind and caring Ava, who was so enthralled by our recent work with local care homes that she has encouraged her family to get involved too. At the weekend, Ava went back to visit the care home with her family to spread some Christmas cheer and she was gifted this lovely card made and signed by the residents there. Well done, Ava – what a superstar carer you are. We are all very proud of your kindness and compassion – just what Christmas is all about!

The Pride of Thorne Awards Ceremony 2023 – A KS1 Celebration of Learning

This evening, we are delighted to have held our KS1 Celebration of Learning – the very first Green Top Pride of Thorne Awards Ceremony!

This very special event has brought together nominees from across our local community who have been recognised for their invaluable work both with and for the people of Thorne. From foodbanks to emergency services to care homes … The list and variety of work celebrated this evening was phonomenol and each and every award was so well deserved. Congratulations to all of you!

Special thanks go to our KS1 children and their parents / carers for their ongoing support in both our learning journey towards this event and the success of our event this evening – we really couldn’t do it without you.

A huge thank you and well done from everyone in the KS1 team x
