Please find a letter attached regarding an upcoming event for children in Year 5 and 6
In expedition this week, the children have been taking part in one of the UK’s largest surveys for children, ‘The Big Ask.’ They were given the opportunity to answer questions about their own lives and think about how it has been impacted as a result of the pandemic. It has been a great opportunity for the children to have their voices heard and express how they have really felt during this period.
WOW! Well done to everyone who took the time to celebrate maths by photographing maths in our community! We have some wonderful examples that I can’t wait to display around school.

Wednesday’s maths challenge:
What does 100 grams look like? Can you measure out 100g into a food bag and bring it to school? Last year we looked at what 100 looks like and it will be great to compare 100 and 100g!
Don’t forget Friday’s maths challenge is our Maths Dress up day! We are raising money for NSPCC and our target is £500! We are asking for a donation of £1 (minimum).

As part of our expedition, the children have been looking at the impact that Covid-19 has had on the local community. We have discussed ways in which we as a phase could help others in the community who are struggling at this difficult time. Following on from the visit by Susan Durant, we have decided that we would like to make a phase donation to the local food bank.
If anyone has any spare food to donate it would be greatly appreciated. Any donations can be sent into school and delivered to your child’s class teacher. The more donations we receive the better. Thank you!
Recently, Trinity Academy launched a geography competition for the Y5/6 to create a hybrid creature and explain how it had adapted to suit its rainforest environment.

Today the Year 6 children were given the chance to speak to our expert, Susan Durant. Susan very kindly volunteered to come into school and give the children an insight into what it has been like to work throughout the pandemic. From the beginning, Susan was one of a group of hard-working volunteers who did their utmost to provide meals and packages for the most vulnerable people within our community. The children were fully engaged with some of the stories that Susan had for them and had plenty of questions to follow. Having reflected with the Year 6 children afterwards, I would like to say how thankful we all are to Susan, not only for coming in a speaking to us all today but for the hard work and dedication she and others have put into helping the local community over the last year. Thank you!
This Friday, Friday 30th April, marks the beginning of the Captain Tom 100 Challenge which will continue until Bank Holiday Monday 3rd May.
The family of Sir Captain Tom Moore is inviting the world to take inspiration from his famous 100 laps around his garden to celebrate Tom’s life, his generosity of spirit and the hope and joy he brought to millions.
YOU can join this celebration and take part in the Captain Tom 100 by setting yourself your own challenge based around the number 100!

Dear Parents and Carers
Next week is maths week at Green Top (4th – 7th May). We will be celebrating maths and to do this we will be doing the following:
- Each day you will be informed of a challenge you can complete at home and bring into school or email to [email protected]
- Each day there will be a FUN maths challenge on the blog for you to complete as a family at home
- Friday is NSPCC Maths day so we will be having a ‘maths’ dress up day (£1 donation)

Tuesday’s challenge is: Maths is everywhere! Take a photograph of something maths related around our local community. This could be a percentage in a shop sale, a date on a building, a bus timetable or numbers on a traffic sign. Who will be the most creative? Send your photographs to [email protected]. Good Luck!
