It was great to welcome Class 6 back today after our half-term break! All of the children have had a great day back and it was lovely to see them well rested and ready to learn again 🙂
Well done to our learning legends today – Bliss from Crew Dutton and for Crew O’Neill: Harry, Francesca, Harley, Teddy, Cara, Reef and Kaila!
Thanks to all who have entered the pumpkin competition. The deadline for entries is 12pm today. Unfortunately any entries received after this time will not be part of the judging. One winner per phase will be announced and all entries will receive a small treat on their return to school next Monday. Details of the competition are below:
🎃🍁🍂Happy half term 🎃🍁🍂
At Green Top we are sad that family learning can’t take place as it would usually in our classrooms and therefore we have pledged to have a family learning activity each half term for the whole school community to get involved with.
The first family learning challenge will be a ‘Carve or Decorate your own pumpkin’ competition. This competition will be judged on 31st October. There can be one entry per child and all entries must be entered by a photograph sent to [email protected] by the 12pm Tuesday 27th October. As photographs are entered they will be blogged on the website for all to see. All students who enter will receive a ‘treat’ on their return to school on 2nd November.
In addition one winner will be selected from each phase. Winners will be announced on October 31st.
Last week, we started looking at our new English cycle which will be instructions. We used a story map to help us remember the model text.
I wonder if anyone can remember the words and actions when we come back after half term?
Good luck guys!
Year One have had a brilliant Autumn inspired day to end our first half-term of the year!
We have enjoyed discussing seasonal change and thinking about what is so special about Autumn, making links to the celebration of harvest, weather and colour. We also had the chance to decorate (and eat!) our own biscuits as a special treat… Yum yum!
Our focus was to learn about the work of Japanese artist, Yayoi Kusama who puts dots everywhere… even on pumpkins! We used her work to inspire some of our own beautiful work which you can check out below and in our video. Enjoy!
We hope you all have a fabulous half-term and will look forward to seeing you all in two weeks time.
Mrs Dutton, Miss Hilton, Miss O’Neil and Mrs Robson 🙂
It’s been a busy week full of fantastic learning in Class 6 yet again … Well done everyone – you definitely deserve a fabulous half-term break!
In English we have been learning about adjectives to help us write a character description of Mrs Armitage from our focus text. Maths has been all about using our addition and subtraction skills to solve word problems. And, in expedition, we have been finding out about how to stay safe when riding a bicycle.
Learning legends this week have included: Annabel, Teddy, Harley and Poppy – as well as a whole class recognition on Thursday after we had completed our task of staying gold or above in order to earn ourselves a funky Friday treat day on the last day of term! Great job everyone 🙂
Mrs Dutton
It was great to see everyone being a Curious Clio today trying to work out what our next English cycle would be. After the excitement of making chocolate sandwiches and completing a jigsaw task, they worked out that our next cycle will be instructions.
Do you ever ask your child what they’ve been learning this week only to get told ‘nothing’ or ‘I can’t remember’.
To try and help with this, each year group will share a specific question each week about that weeks learning to try and help get the conversation going.Â
Let us know if it’s useful and helps children talk about their learning.Â

It’s been another fantastic week in Class 10 with everyone writing fantastic touchdowns describing the chocolate room. This weeks learning legends have been working hard and being kind. Well done to all of you.
Class 6 have worked SO hard to get smart this week! We have been really focused on securing our number bonds to 10 and our understanding of fact families. The children have not only worked hard on this in maths but they have been sneaking in as much practice as they can throughout the day too and they have come on leaps and bounds, I am so proud of their commitment to learning … well done everyone!
In our expedition learning this week, we have turned our attention to road safety awareness. Learning about the green cross code and all the different features of a safe road. Next week, we will be learning about how to stay safe on our bikes and this ties in nicely with our new English focus text – Mrs Armitage on Wheels. Today we learned about the #HelloYellow mental health campaign and discussed different ways that we can help ourselves feel better if we’re not feeling quite so ‘ok’ as we normally do. The children had some great ideas to help each other feel better on the inside.
Shout outs this week go to all of this week’s Learning Legends … Harry, Harley, Carter, Annabel,Savannah, Kaila, Letti, Reuben and Poppy! And a special mention to Cara as well because she has been practising her number bonds at home and it has really shown in her classroom learning – great job! Bliss was our Out of this World nominee for the week … even though Bliss has had to contend with the crying of a new baby brother (!), she has still been coming to school and giving it her best every day. She even asked for extra learning tasks when she could have been having a bit of a chill at home time this week … keep up the great work, Bliss.
We hope everyone has a lovely weekend break and we look forward to getting back to business on Monday.
Mrs Dutton and Miss O’Neill
