Captain Tom 100 Challenge! 🏅

This Friday, Friday 30th April, marks the beginning of the Captain Tom 100 Challenge which will continue until Bank Holiday Monday 3rd May.

The family of Sir Captain Tom Moore is inviting the world to take inspiration from his famous 100 laps around his garden to celebrate Tom’s life, his generosity of spirit and the hope and joy he brought to millions.

YOU can join this celebration and take part in the Captain Tom 100 by setting yourself your own challenge based around the number 100!

Let the number 100 be your inspiration and do something amazing, whether it’s..

100 Star Jumps

100 laps of your garden

100 minutes of gaming

Baking 100 cupcakes

Singing for 100 minutes.

We would love to see lots of you taking part and taking lots of photographs of your challenges. Please send any photographs or videos to [email protected] so we can celebrate your contributions on the blog.

Here is a video with more information about the fundraising event.

Dear Parents and Carers

Next week is maths week at Green Top (4th – 7th May).  We will be celebrating maths and to do this we will be doing the following:

  • Each day there will be a FUN maths challenge on the blog for you to complete as a family at home
  • Friday is NSPCC Maths day so we will be having a ‘maths’ dress up day (£1 donation)

Please see the school blog for links to the NSPCC maths day website, ideas for dress up and daily posts next week.

Last year was a huge success and enjoyed by all – we can’t wait to see what next week brings.

Thanks

Dress up ideas:

Taste the rainbow 🌈

Today in maths, we enjoyed using Skittles to help us find percentages of different quantities. We then used our knowledge to convert the percentages into fractions and decimals.

We even managed to treat ourselves with the left over skittles that we all enjoyed 100%!! Well done everyone!! 💫

HAPPY EASTER!! 🐣🐣

We ended the term with a lovely Easter egg hunt this afternoon where the children had to find the eggs and unscramble the code. After lots of resilience we finally cracked it! “WE ARE YEAR 5 CREW – HAPPY EASTER”

I hope everyone has a fabulous Easter break, look after each other and make lots of special memories!

Have a crackin’ time!

Getting in the zone! 💫

Over the last two days, we have focused on mindfulness and meditation as part of looking after our well-being. In Crew, each child have completed their own individual part of a colouring jigsaw that we are going to piece together and display in our classroom to show how togetherness is important and that each crew member is a piece to our own crew jigsaw!

Final product presentations 🧑🏼‍💻

This week, two groups of children presented their final presentations to Year 5/6 pupils from Plover. I was blown away by their confidence and ability to speak publicly about their Expedition learning and answering questions the children from Plover asked about their case studies.

A big well done to you all and thank you to Miss Blackham and the Plover children too for allowing us to present to you – we really appreciate it and are so glad that you enjoyed it!

A super way to end our Expedition and celebrate your awesome learning! x

NATIONAL DAY OF REFLECTION 🌈

This morning in Crew, we shared our memories, thoughts and feelings as it marks a year since the first national lockdown. Everyone shared the special memories they created during lockdown, we also reflected and thought of those that have sadly lost their lives and those that have dedicated themselves to being key workers throughout the pandemic.

We then coloured an image of a flower which we added people we are thankful for and also things that we are grateful for throughout this past year.

What a lovely and thoughtful morning crew!

Joe Wicks gets us ready for a busy week!

This morning in Crew, we discussed wellbeing and different things we can do to look after our mental health. Throughout the week we are going to be looking closely at different activities we can take part in to support our well-being. Today, we took part in a Joe Wicks workout during crew to kickstart our learning!

Great participation by everyone – Well done Crew!

HAPPY RED NOSE DAY!!

Thank you to everyone for their kind donations towards Comic Relief!
