Week 2 plans for home learning

As you will know next week and the week after should have been the Easter holidays. However, Green Top will remain open to key worker families. Therefore there will still be people available to answer your calls, texts and emails Monday to Friday 8am-5pm.

We will be continuing with Google hangouts and Google classroom in the same way we have this week and there will still be work set for English and Maths skills lessons daily. In addition there will be fun activities to complete as part of the Expedition learning plans. It would be great to catch up with you using one of these tools each day. We encourage you to have some down time too but don’t want to lose your enthusiasm and engagement in the home learning success we’ve had this week. It is such an uncertain time and all staff, children and parents who’ve spoken to me have really valued the positive impact the communication with friends and staff has had on the Green Top children and wider community. Unfortunately, no one knows how long this period of enforced school closure will last for and lots of you have asked me for more ideas of things to do at home when you’re stuck in the house.

We’d like to hear from you as often as possible and therefore will continue with our safe and well checks next week. As always if you need to talk or have anything to ask we’re at the end of the phone, email or text service.

Hope to see you all in hangouts or google classroom next week, send your teachers/phase leaders lots of photos too and look out for next weeks challenge for feel good Friday.

Thanks

Mrs Claira Salter

  1. Hi James deans and Lucus ok
James been in hospital again yesterday but back home now

    • Miss Schön

I really hope he is OK Leanne? Poor thing. Please tell them both I say hello!

  2. I think this is great. Not only are you helping the key workers, but I think it’s a great idea for kids to continue working. There is nothing else that they can do on their holidays apart from play in their garden. And the work that they are set still gives them plenty of time to break off and play.. I take my hat off to green top school.

    • Thanks so much – that’s our aim and the biggest challenge is maintaining the social aspect of school wherever possible.

I do think with it being the school holidays, the children should be allowed to have that time off with no school work to do, it is not fair on them and there families that this has happened

    • CLAIRA SALTER

There is no obligation to do the work, however we have a duty to you as families to ensure everyone in the household is safe and well during the current situation. Therefore we are continuing to support all families who need us during the holidays. As stated in my clarification post here – we will be continuing however, if we don;t hear from you during this very uncertain period of time we will be in touch to complete safe and well checks as part of our statutory duty.
Thanks for your continued support in this hugely uncertain times for all involved.
If you would like to discuss further please call

  4. Thank you. My children are really enjoying having things to do whilst they are stuck at home and so I am sure they would choose to access this over the next two weeks to break up the time. It is also a great way to keep in touch with their friends.

    • I absolutely agree – the social aspect of school and well being of the children is my number one priority.

  5. Can you just confirm whether the children will still be required to login at 9am every day? Sam was quite looking forward to having a lie-in! Thank you.

    • We absolutely think Sam should have a lie in! Within the trust we’re conscious that children would be out socialising and doing fun things that aren’t now possible during the holiday period and therefore we are providing the opportunities to socialise through our digital platforms. If Sam wants a lazy morning and just chat later on classroom or hangout in an afternoon that absolutely fine.

      • That’s brilliant, thank you! I’m sure he will still be going on every day, as he’s really enjoying still catching up with everyone. I will let him know. Take care, all of you x

  6. Dr A Lockwood

Well done and a huge thank you Mrs Salter and all the hard working staff at Green Top who are helping to make such an uncertain situation into a unique and exciting learning experience for all our children. It’s certainly keeping everyone connected and busy. Keep up all the great work!

    • Mr Kershaw will try to sort this for you first thing tomorrow.
      Thanks
