Time in Class 6

Year 1 have been learning about time this week in maths. Today they worked in collaborative groups to match the written time to the analogue clock. To help your child at home, you could practise with them:

  • saying or singing the months of the year and days of the week
  • telling the time on an analogue clock for o’clock and half past the hour

If you can practise time at home, you will be awarded an extra 20 house points.

Incredible Imitate

Bradley, Harry and Ellie all went to visit Mr Butler today to show off their amazing imitate writing of the story Beegu. Mr Butler and I are so proud of you all! Well done!

A wonderful week…

This week in Class 6, we have been reading the story ‘Beegu’ and spent lots of time comprehending and inferring the text. Today, we got to read the complete story and create some Talk4Writing symbols in collaborative groups. The children thoroughly loved the book and worked brilliantly sharing beautifully together.

The children in my phonics group have been working so hard this week on reading and writing words with the zz, ch, qu and ur digraph. They have particularly loved hunting outside for words, finger writing with paint and even writing on the carpet in chalk. Keep up the hard work! 🙂

FAMILY LEARNING

This week started off with a fun filled crafting afternoon with our families. A huge thank you to parents and carers who brought in lots of boxes for junk modelling landmarks in Thorne.

In just 1 hour some amazing models were made and are now proudly displayed down the KS1 corridor. We hope you enjoy looking at them as much as the children (and dare I say parents a little more…) did making them!

Thorne’s Explorers

We have been very busy this week exploring Thorne Town to launch our new theme ‘Would you like to live in a place like this?’ The children have thoroughly enjoyed our walks to Morani’s Gelato Parlour where we ate some delicious ice cream! We have been to feed the ducks and are going to visit the Park at the end of the week.

We have taken lots of photographs and are looking forward to getting back into school to write about all of our experiences. We will also be doing some observational drawing of the places we have visited this week.

We’re Hooked!

It’s been a wonderful few days so far of ‘Hook Week’. Here are some of the things Class 6 have been getting up to…

Here are the children 5 minutes in to the day on Monday morning enjoying our new Thorne Park themed reading area.

Here we are on Monday making lists about what is in Thorne Town.

Yesterday, the children got a little sticky and made lolly stick houses for them to display their family portraits.

Would you like to live in a place like this?

Class 5 have had an amazing start to hook week and have loved exploring our new theme Would you like to live in a place like this?

The children had lots of discussion about the places that we could find in Thorne and they presented their ideas to the class.

They had lots of information and I think they taught Miss Cooper and I a thing or two!!

What a great start Class 5

Green Screen fun!

The fun didn’t stop today as Year 5/6 had fun at flying lessons! They even had time to practise their duelling skills with their wands!

Transfiguration – reversible or irreversible?

Year 5/6 took part in a Harry Potter inspired transfiguration lesson today where they looked at changing state. The children melted chocolate and made toast and had to decide whether the changes were reversible or irreversible!
