When Alex from Hays Salon came to visit…

Alex came to visit us yesterday from Hays Salon in Hull as part of our Aspirations Week. Alex talked to us about his childhood, schooling and how he came to be a successful hairdresser and business owner. The children loved his visit and were inspired to write many facts about Alex, his salon and his life.

A huge thank you to Alex from all of Year One for coming to visit us.

Let’s get measuring!

We have been so busy in Class 6 exploring different ways to measure length and height. The children have used standard and non-standard units to explore this. The children loved drawing around Mrs Langton, Mrs Hay and Mrs Stone to investigate how tall they were.

I wonder…can you measure your own height and write it in your homework book for an extra 10hps?

St Patrick’s Day in Class 6

On Friday, we celebrated St Patrick’s Day by finding out how St Patrick’s Day is celebrated. We had a class quiz and made some shamrock crafts!

I wonder… Can you write down a fun fact about St Patrick’s Day in your homework book for an extra 10hps?

Year 1 World Book Day

Don’t we look BOOKtastic? We are having a fabulous time all dressed up as our favourite characters.

WE LOVE WORLD BOOK DAY!

Thank you Mel!

A huge thank you from us to Mel for coming in to visit us today. Mel shared with us some of her father’s professional art work and showed us how to create some illustrations. She even created us a drawing mascot who we gave the name ‘Marshmallow’.

Before Mel left she asked us to look carefully at Vincent Van Gogh’s 1888 ‘Sunflowers’. This afternoon, the children loved recreating drawings of sunflowers in vases.

Thank you Mel for being such a great inspiration to our children.

See you soon!

Awesome Oliver and Faith

Oliver has once again been doing some fantastic home learning over half term. He has explored Thorne and taken photographs. He has then compared his modern day photographs to old images of the same place. If you would like to take a look at Oliver’s home learning, it is proudly displayed in our classroom. Well done Oliver!

Faith has been so so brave over half term after several visits to hospital. Here is Faith with her bravery awards. Well done Faith for being a superstar! I am very proud of you!

Collaborative phonics…

The children all worked so hard last week in phonics and loved working in child led circles to write as many ‘igh’ trigraph words as they could as a team.

Outdoor material hunting…

Last week, Class 6 had a great time hunting in the quad for different materials. We then looked at them carefully and sorted them into categories of metal, glass, plastic and fabric.

Dan the Builder in KS1

Dan the builder came to visit the KS1 children last week to talk about how houses and other buildings are made. He talked about the different materials needed to create a house and what they were each used for. All of the children and staff loved his visit and found out lots of interesting facts. Thank you Dan for taking time to visit us!

If you can tell your teacher something you learnt from Dan or an interesting fact about materials used to build a house, you will be rewarded with 10 house points!
