KS1 – Eat your heart out Hollywood!

How wonderful it was to be able to welcome our parents and carers back for the celebration of our Autumn learning expedition – What will I do to be a superhero in my community?

We gathered at the XP East site for a star-spangled red carpet event where our children truly were the stars of the show in a first screening of their final product video which showcased their learning in true Hollywood style.

Thank you so much to everyone who braved the traffic and came dressed in their best to help us recognise and honour the children’s hard work and achievements in such an awesome fashion.

We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.

Class 5’s visit to Weston Museum!

WOW What a day we had yesterday! It was incredible to see the children so excited about all the exhibits throughout West Park Museum. We got to explore what living in Sheffield was like in the 1950s, what jobs people used to have and how what the ‘Steel City’ really had to offer. The children got to browse the incredible art in the gallery, looking at different interpretations of the rural fields and hills, the 5 main rivers that run through Sheffield, the steel factories and how it has changed over the years to the urbanised, high rise built up area we drove through.

I can’t wait to see the finished banner we created with print working too. The children got to use real ink to make impressions, printed onto a wonderful fabric banner. Hopefully we can display these proudly in school 😀 We took so many amazing pictures, I couldn’t choose the best, just look at all our smiling faces!!!

Map making!

As part of our final product this term in KS1, class 5 have started the process of making a layered map of our local area. Today was step one- drawing the outline. We used tracing paper and worked really hard, taking our time and making sure to take pride in our work to trace the streets carefully. We managed to create some beautiful first layers and next-up will be to add some locations on our maps! Hopefully we can use our new map reading skills to find places to include.

Eventually, we will have wonderful maps of Thorne that showcase some awesome areas around! Keep up the hard work class 5, you make me so proud every day of how much hard work you are showing 😀

Postcard winner!

Well done to Ria-Mae today for blowing Miss O’Neill and myself away all day! She has been working hard to find halves this morning and done some wonderful writing this afternoon. We made predictions about what we think our new case study, Geography, is going to include! Great job class 5, and especially Ria-Mae!

Getting our Kixx on!

We had our first session with Kixx football today in class 5, and what fun we had! The children loved learning new skills, some of us got to show off their football skills and the children loved playing some fun games.

This will be our PE sessions for the next few weeks on a Monday afternoon, so if we could make sure to bring a change of shoes in particular but in general an outdoor PE kit.

Can’t wait to see the children learning new skills and having fun!

HOWL winners!

Big shoutout to all of class 5 for our first week back after half term. It’s been full of fun and hard work, a lot of us even getting to share our amazing learning with parents and families. What a week so far!

These 3 superstars have been voted by our awesome crew for their hard work, kind manners and attitude around School, as our Be Kind, Get Smart and Work Hard postcard winners this week. We held a vote throughout the day and I totally agree with the outcome. Such fantastic members to have in the class.

Keep it up! Miss Good x

Droning on!

WOW what a fantastic afternoon we had when Geoff came in to teach us all about the amazing ways a drone can be used to capture arial images. The children (and adults!!) loved watching the drone take off and head up into the sunny sky. We learnt all about the quadcopter style of drone, and we even figured out it was called that because of the 4 propellers it uses to fly! After we watched it take off and fly through the sky, we then got to see some incredible images that had been taken of the school and Thorne, we could see for miles! We can’t wait to share those pictures too.

Hooked on our new expedition!

As part of our hook into our new expedition – Diverse Doncaster. Where do we belong? – class 6 had lots of fun being historians this afternoon by looking at artefacts and using evidence to decide if they were reliable sources. We worked in groups to match baby pictures to staff photographs. Well done to Tallon, Lexi, Deacon, Ezra, Anais, Bobby and Hunter who guessed 5 of the 18 sets of photos correctly….

Check out the pictures here…weren’t we the cutest babies?
