Clean Water Challenge!

In our science lessons, we have been looking at different ways of separating and filtering items. The children were challenged with taking a bottle of dirty water containing mud, sand, leaves and stones and making it as clean as possible using the tools and equipment available to them. All of the children did a brilliant job working together as a team – well done!

Peer Critique!

We are completing our final touchdowns in writing this week so today we critiqued our writing with the support of each other!

We used our fishbone, remember to’s and the rubric to support us with editing and improving our writing.

I can’t wait to read the final draft!

Green Top Learning Council!

I am thrilled to be running and supporting the Green Top Learning Council this year and I am so excited to see what is in store for us!

The Y5/6 Learning Council members have their first appointment tomorrow where they will be speaking to visitors and leading a tour!

Here they are planning for their upcoming engagement!

Watch out for further blogs and pictures of events that involve the Y3/4 Learning Council members too!

Decimals!

In maths we have kick started our decimals unit with multiplying and dividing by 10, 100 and 1000. To help us consolidate our place value knowledge, we used place value sliders which were a book support to help us visualise numbers getting smaller or bigger.

Some children were already really confident with this skills so moved straight on to some other reasoning and problem solving challenges.

Great work Crew Knowles!

Stainless Steel!

As part of our science learning, we focused on the properties of stainless steel today and why it is such a useful material in the rail industry. We learnt about Harry Brearley and how stainless steel was invented just up the road from us in Sheffield!

Planning for our touch down!

Yesterday, Crew Knowles were planning for their writing touch downs which is a descriptive recount of their first time entering Hogwarts’ Great Hall!

Today, they have started their writing and I am really enjoying reading them so far! They have used lots of figurative language and ISPACE openers which is making their writing much more detailed and descriptive!

I can’t wait to read the finished writing!

Testing Solubility!

In our expedition lesson yesterday, we conducted an investigation to look at the solubility of different materials. We investigated dissolving different solutes (materials) in a solvent (water) and then recorded our results. We also had great fun whilst doing it!
