Phonics and spelling focus week beginning 10.1.22

This week we will be focusing on the following sounds in phonics.

Ay as in play

Ou as in out

Ie as in tie

Ea as in east

The children will also be practising the following spellings.

Are, was, tray, play, shout, out, tied, lied, team, dream.

Any help you could give your child with recognising the sounds and practising the spellings would be very much appreciated.

With many thanks for your continued support.

Class 5 crafts

Class 5 have had a brilliant start to the new term and have been transforming the classroom into an underwater adventure. Everyone has worked so hard and has taken their time to create beautiful art out of different materials to make something to be proud of! You can see the hard work, determination and concentration from everyone. Well done class 5!

Recycled materials

In January, key stage 1 will be making sculptures using recycled materials. If over Christmas you have any ring pulls from cans, beer bottle tops, plastic bottles, plastic bottle tops or any shiny quality street wrappers then please can you save them and bring them in to us when we return to school. It would be much appreciated!

Thank you,

Mrs Shaw and the key stage 1 crew x

Christmas Competition!

Tomorrow, members of the school council will be going around school selling entries for our two Christmas competitions: ‘Guess the name of the elf’ and ‘Guess the number of candy canes.’ Entries cost 50p each and the winner will win either an elf teddy or the box of candy canes.

We will also be selling packets of ‘Reindeer Food’ for 50p each. Please send any money in tomorrow and throughout the week if you are wanting to enter the competition. Winners will be announced on Friday morning. Thank you.

Key stage 1 poetry jam update!

Hopefully in the morning at 9am, the weather permitting, year 1 and 2 children will perform their celebration of learning to you outside on the playground. Unfortunately due to covid restrictions and guidance from the Dfe we won’t be able to have you all in the hall at the same time.

After you have dropped the children off at their classrooms at 8.45, we will walk you all around to the gazebo on the ks2 playground where you can stand and socially distance. Please wear a mask if you are able.

We are hoping to then take the children on a walk around the school with any placards that they have brought in from home.

We look forward to seeing you tomorrow.

Make the change.. make the placard

Let’s get creative! Have a go at creating a placard to make a difference on our march.

Remember.. PICK UP LITTER, USE THE BINS!!

Entries to be in no later than Thursday morning to be used in our march to show our community the positive changes we can make to reduce litter, clean up our streets and use the bins! Here is our first beautiful entry, created by the talented Aurora from class 5!

Class 5’s Out of This World

BIG SHOUT OUT to Liam this week for being our OUT OF THIS WORLD champion.

Liam has been displaying all of our HOWLs and has blown me away with his rhyming words this week in our poetry lessons. He is always making good choices and is a kind and helpful crew member. Thanks Liam, keep up the hard work.

I’d also like to shoutout the rest of class 5 for helping me produce some amazing poems, we created a beautiful acrostic poem all about ROSA PARKS, a rhyming couplet poem about Rosa as well as one about picking up your litter and a shape poem about pollution in the ocean. We have worked very well collaboratively, as a whole class crew!
