Interviewing our experts

Thank you so much to our parent experts who allowed the children to interview them this morning about how their lives have changed since they were little, how Thorne has changed or is different to where they grew up and about how Green Top has changed.

Esme’s mum also spotted herself in a couple of our old Green Top school photos that we have taken out of the archives 😀

Mrs Woolley also shared photos of where she went to school and photographs from when she was younger. The children were very interested in how the boys and girls used to line up separately and that there was no field to play on or play equipment.

The children got so much out of this session, thank you so much

National Numeracy Day – 18th May

We are looking forward to celebrating National Numeracy Day on Wednesday 18th May!

Maths is all around us and in the run up to National Numeracy Day, I would love for you to take some photos of you that link to maths! Maybe it will be a picture of you using money to pay for something in the shop, maybe it will be of how many steps you have walked in a day, or maybe it will be of you practising your maths skills!

How creative can you be finding maths around your home and in the community? Please send all of your photographs to [email protected] so that I can make a video to celebrate maths!

Also, check out the official website (link below) because there are lots of fun activities that you can do with your children!

Year 2 Spellings – w.c. 2/5/2022

This week, Year 2 have been practising adding the suffixes -er, -est, -ed, -y and -ing to root words ending in ‘e’ after a consonant. We learnt that when this happens, we need to drop the ‘e’ before adding the suffix. These are the words we have been learning for next week’s spelling test:

Celebration of Eid

Class 8 have been learning about different celebrations celebrated within a variety of religions. One of them was eid, which took place this weekend. They did some drama and some art work around this celebration and really enjoyed learning about different beliefs.

Well done Class 8

There was some fantastic map work happening today. The children were using their knowledge of human and physical features to locate landmarks and places in Thorne.

Great work!

Phonics drop in

Just a little reminder that on Wednesday there will be a phonics drop in for all parents who have children in EYFS and year 1. If your child is older but you know that they still find phonics useful then please still come along if you can. It will help you to know how to support your children with their phonics learning and give you an insight into what we teach your children in these sessions.

There are 2 sessions; one at 9am and one at 3.15pm. They will be the same presentation so you only need to attend one of them and they won’t last longer than 30 minutes.

We look forward to seeing you there

Reminder for the key stage 1 celebration of learning

****If you haven’t already let your teacher know or completed the form please do…the more families that attend, the more proud the children will be of their fantastic work! ****

We are so excited to finally invite parents to see the fantastic video that our children made during the Autumn term. The expedition was called ‘ What will I do to be a superhero in my community?’ and we believe that this video showcases all of their hard work throughout the term.

We would like to invite all parents and carers to XP East for our film premiere on Tuesday 17th May 2022. It will begin at 5pm and last for approximately 45 minutes to an hour.

We would love if the children could come in their best party clothes, just like the movie stars do at a film premiere. There will be refreshments available.

Please let teachers know how many people from your family will be attending. It would be great to see as many faces as possible at the event to really celebrate the children’s learning!

Please complete the following form by clicking on the link below so that we know how many people will be attending. Alternatively, please speak to your class teacher to let them know who will be coming from your family.
