I have been totally overwhelmed by this little group! Today, we were introduced to our Roman topics which we will take ownership over for the creation of our final product for this expedition and my goodness are they brilliant!

First, we discussed the vocabulary to make sure we all understood the topic and what was needed to cover it fully. This meant the children realised we might have to include a definition in our introduction so that other children understand what it means too!

Then, we took to the books and put on our historian hats! Looking through and post-it noting the pages which ‘fitted’ or linked with our understanding of the topic. From here we shared and agreed on several sub headings so we all had a part to play and a section to write.

Once decided, we swapped our hats and pretended to be web designers! Each of us thought carefully about websites we use and have seen, what we like etc and used these ideas to create our own vision of what our webpage would look like for other children – asking questions like – is it clear, easy to use and child friendly?  Each child shared their ideas and we created an idea together of how it might look visually.

The final step of today was to pull all this together and create our opening introduction paragraph for our first page! It’s safe to say it’s fantastic and the understanding and vocabulary that was used blew me away! I’ll share the first paragraph but nothing more yet!

I would like to award Alex and Alexsis the leaning legend today as both have impressed me with one, their response to reading and writing this week and also to their amazing engagement in their music learning and creating some very creative verses based on their own personal interests! Great job guys!

This week we have been learning about pitch, melody, echo and beat.  First we listened and learnt a song about Roman Signals, then we studied the song in more detail and established that each verse line worked on 8 beats and the interlude worked on 7.  So from here, we have had ago at creating our own verse of a song!

During the rest of the week we will create a class song linked to our Roman expedition and share with you!

The children have impressed me so much with this task and their understanding and creativity has been wonderful!  Well done guys!

Who said we can’t still work collaboratively while social distancing in a classroom! Smashed it today with some fantastic mosaics of some Roman Gods.

We enlarged the pictures to A3 and cut them into 2 halves so the children had to communicate their colours and patterns in order for the 2 halves of the mosaic to match. And I must say they did a brilliant job – so happy at how well they turned out!

Also we have Tilly for her fabulous and extremely well presented French learning today! Mrs Hardman was also very impressed with all her hard work after we sent her a picture of it.  What a Can do Colin you were today Tilly!

So today was a bit dull and rainy outside however we have still done lots of learning and had fun.

We’ve been looking at Roman catapults and how they were back in the day, then using lolly sticks and elastic bands we had ago at making our very own!  Very tricky business twisting elastic bands around lots of sticks so we all had to be a stick-ability Stan to get the job done!

We have also, including me, been learning so french today! I’ve never taught french before so actually some of them ended up teaching me some bits and bobs to help us complete our learning!

The online learning this week has been superb. I’ve been so impressed with the quality of writing, the understanding of perimeter and the reasoning shown in maths. A big well done year 4!!!
