Christmas Craft Day

Class 16 have had a fun day creating Christmas cards and calendars for 2021. Mr Ambler was even brave enough to get the glitter and paints out! As well as creating cards and calendars we have been getting into the Christmas spirit singing songs and putting together our Christmas script. We can’t wait for you to see it!

Exploring Trees!

As part of our expedition ‘how can we help the world we live in?’ we have focused on deforestation and the importance of trees. We had an expert visit us in school to teach us how trees adapt to their environment and we had a look around our grounds at some of the different trees. We were shocked how different all of the trees were and the different ways they had adapted to their surroundings!

Thank you Mr Kershaw! 🧭

A big shoutout and thank you to Mr Kershaw for taking the time to come and teach Year 5 lots of map reading skills during G Block today. Everyone enjoyed working together and taking part in fun activities. I was also so impressed listening to everyone’s new knowledge of using compasses! We can’t wait to put our new map reading skills into practice!

National Tree Week

This morning in crew as part of ‘National Tree Week’ we have been discussing the importance of trees and why they are important to the environment we live in. In addition, this has linked perfectly to our expedition ‘How can we help the world we live in?’ The children were really reflective on the impact deforestation has locally and globally and what we can we do to help our local environment. As a crew we all made pledges to make our world a better place to live in. Well done Crew Ambler and Crew Jeeves for a fantastic community crew lesson.

Brilliant Coaching

I would like to give a huge shout out to Henley and Elise for their brilliant coaching skills in maths this morning focusing on squared and cubed numbers. I was blown away with how well they were both explaining what squared and cubed numbers are and how to solve problems linked to them. Great coaching Henley and Elise I am very proud of you both!

Special Visitor! 🔥 👩‍🚒

Year 5 and 6 have been so lucky today by having Firefighter James Fenwick in to talk to them about the devastating fires at Hatfield Moors back in May 2020- this linking to our expedition surrounding Deforestation.

James was one of many of the brave firefighters that worked tirelessly at the moors to combat these fires for 6 weeks and explained to us the effects the fires had on the local wildlife and their habitats as well as showing us lots of different images and explaining his journey on this job; from the start of the fires, all the way through to the end. We were all so shocked at the damage that was caused by a disposable bbq!!

The children had lots of questions for James about the moors fire and found it really interesting hearing the ins and outs of his job role. A huge thank you to him for answering them so well and for taking time out of his busy, important schedule to come and talk through this with us. We really appreciate it!!
