KS1 are hooked on opera!

What a fantastic hook back into our learning after the half term holidays we enjoyed this afternoon. Mr Lamb, who had already given us the benefit of his expert knowledge about castles earlier in the year, came into school to explain what being an opera singer entails. He talked us through the process of learning and practising a song, and showed us the costumes and make-up he wears when performing. We joined in with some vocal exercises before Mr. Lamb performed part of ‘Toreador’ from the opera, Carmen. The children were transfixed! They then were allowed to try on some of the hats and masks that Mr Lamb wears. What an amazing experience. Thank you so much Mr Lamb.

World Book Day

Green Top will be celebrating World Book Day on Thursday 2nd March and this will be a dress up event.

We can’t wait to see which book character you decide to be but please don’t feel that you have to buy a costume – we love seeing the homemade ones!

Save the date - World Book Day | World Book Day is a registered charity. Our mission is to give every child and young person a book of their own.

New Year 1 SPaG Parent’s Site

Good evening all. I wanted to share with you an exciting new site to explain and support you in helping your child practise their spelling, punctuation and grammar skills. Mrs. Jackson has put together some very useful information for parents and carers to explain what and how we teach these very important skills. There are also videos, slide presentations and practise papers to help your child succeed. Click on the link here to access the site for Year 1. Should you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact Miss Schon or myself.

With many thanks for your continued support

Class 6: We are Victorious

Wow Class 6 blew me away with they engagement during last weeks TTRockstars tournament. After an early lead by Miss Rodgers Class on Day 1, Class 6 soon stepped it up and steamed into the lead. They kept this lead all the way to end leading us to victory!

Well done to the players who placed in the top 10!

Arnie (2nd), Spencer (3rd), Phoenix (4th), Ezra (6th) and Ruby (9th)

Special shout out to the following players for their engagement, we couldn’t have done it without you all!

Freddie, Eden, Millie, Thomas, Harper, Ivy-Ray, Matilda, Malaney, Ava-Leigh, Myles, Penny, Jude, Grace, Willow, William, Poppy EM and Elea!

The tournament has now ended but don’t forget to log in and practise your times tables ready for our next tournament.

Year 1 Maths – Numbots

Today we introduced the children in Year 1 to ‘Numbots’. Just like TTRockstars you can download the Numbots app and use the same log-in details to access the Numbots games. These games practise the skills of subtilising, number bonds, addition and subtraction. At first the games may appear to be easy but this is because it is practising children’s quick recall skills. The games progressively get harder the more you play. Once children reach level 26 the ‘Challenge’ section will unlock and children will be able to choose their own games that they want to practise.

We hope that you enjoy watching your child’s skills improving each time they play!

Maths Week Challenge 5

Today is NSPCC Number Day and TTRockstars are holding an NSPCC Rocks event! Support our school by logging in to your TTRockstars and taking part! The competition is open until 7.30pm.

If you don’t have a TTRockstars account you could play other online games on websites such as Hit the Button or Maths Frame!

Have fun!

Y1 tables slam final evening update

Miss Schon and I are overwhelmed by the amazing effort of class 6 and class 7 in our times table challenge this week. On the final evening before the competition ends at 8am tomorrow morning Crew Schon are still in the lead. Perhaps you could fit in a few more rounds before school in the morning. Lets see who will be champion.

We can’t wait to see your maths related outfits for National Number Day tomorrow too.

Well done everyone .

Maths Week Challenge 4!

Well done to those who have taken part in our challenges so far – you’ve done a fantastic job! Here is the challenge for day 4! There are 3 different levels for you to choose from depending on whether or not you want a challenge!

Remember to send your pictures of the things you find to your teachers or to [email protected]

We can’t wait to see what you find on your scavenger hunt!

Y1 Band battle update

As day 3 in our nail biting times tables slam draws to a close Crew Schon are still in the lead with an average of 187 correct answers per pupil compared with Crew Rodgers 142. Remember that only questions answered in “Garage’ will count towards our scores. You can also change the length of each game…1, 2, or 3 minutes. Over 2/3 of each class is now playing regularly! What an amazing and fun way to Get Smart in your maths learning! Miss Schon and I are blown away by how enthusiastic you all are about our competition and learning your times tables but please remember to limit screen time and to ensure that you are not allowing other family members to answer the questions for you. Practise really does make perfect. If it is not you who is answering the equations you won’t improve as you should, and will be given tables that do not match your ability. Remember, the competition ends at 8am on Friday morning (3rd February) and a new 12 hour whole-school competition will begin in aid of the NSPCC to celebrate National Number Day. We hope you are having a think about what number or maths based costume you could wear for school on that day.

We are so proud of you all.

Miss Rodgers and Miss Schon xx

Our current top 5 TTRockstars players in Class 6 were showing us how it’s done today! Thank you to all the children who have logged on and helped us to remain in the lead again today.
