Drone fun in ks1

This afternoon, the children were very lucky

as they had a drone expert in to show them how we can take aerial photographs and get a birds eye view of everything on the ground.

They loved watching it take off and fly over the school but they especially loved seeing the photographs afterwards which showed a lot of Thorne and areas surrounding the school.

what a fantastic experience!

Thanks so much to Geoff for coming in and doing this for us…the children appreciate it so much as we will use these photos in our Summer expedition!

Times Tables Rock Stars day!!! (International dance day) – Friday 29th April

On Friday the 29th April, we will be having a rock star dress up day in years 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 & 1. Times Tables Rock Stars is an excellent site which helps children practice and improve their times tables. All children in these year groups have a login. To promote it’s use across school, we are encouraging children to dress up as rock stars on the above date. Not only will children have the opportunity to use this site on this day, we will be linking it to International Dance day which falls on the same date. Therefore, in the afternoon, children will also be dancing and crews will be making ‘rock-style’ music videos. Pictures and videos of the day will be blogged by each crew.

Postcard winners today

Well done to Kalab, Rhys and Eva who won postcards today for great learning choices, fantastic talk for writing performances and brilliant maths work respectively.

Keep up the good work kiddos!

Hooked on our new expedition!

As part of our hook into our new expedition – Diverse Doncaster. Where do we belong? – class 6 had lots of fun being historians this afternoon by looking at artefacts and using evidence to decide if they were reliable sources. We worked in groups to match baby pictures to staff photographs. Well done to Tallon, Lexi, Deacon, Ezra, Anais, Bobby and Hunter who guessed 5 of the 18 sets of photos correctly….

Check out the pictures here…weren’t we the cutest babies?

Red Nose Day 🔴

Well done to the winners of the ‘Design a Red Nose’ competition! There were some fantastic entries but the school council voted and decided that these would be the winning entries. Well done to all who submitted an entry.

We are also pleased to announce that the school managed to sell £300 worth of red noses in the run up to the event before raising a further £301.58 through donations when wearing something red. Thank you to every one for your generous donations!

Happy Easter from class 6

What an ‘eggciting’ way to end the Spring term! But enough of the ‘yolks’, I’ll ‘crack’ on with the post…

Check out the fantastic decorated eggs that the children and their families have produced for our competition. As always, I’m blown away by the awesome support of our parents and carers for events such as these. It was almost impossible to choose a winner but I enlisted the help of Mrs Robertson and Mrs Woodroffe and they decided on Adam’s prehistoric dinosaur entry. He won an Easter egg but I made sure all the children had a prize for their efforts.

Have a wonderful, peaceful holiday.

See you in a fortnight

Learning legend and outdoor fun

Congratulations to Rhys who won our learning legend postcard today for his awesome description of our final product. Well done sweetheart. The other pictures are just a couple from our XP outdoors session today with Mr Kershaw. We managed to dodge the snow and have fun in the sunshine.

KS1 family learning

A huge thank you to all class 6’s family members who joined us this morning for our learning event. As part of our science case study this term we looked at habitats and learned how humans are having a devastating effect on the homes of some of our creatures. We decided to give our tiniest critters a helping hand by building them some bespoke accommodation in the form of bug hotels. We used some plastic bottles left over from our final product along with other materials we had foraged from our quad to create the bug’s living quarters and had lots of fun sharing our learning with our families.

Take a look at the slideshow to see how we got on.
