Skellig Recap!

As part of our English starter, the Y6 children at home had to recap our class text (Skellig) so far! We used Padlet to write our recaps and I was absolutely blown away by some of the responses and the information that they chose to include!

Why not ask your child what has happened in Skellig so far?

T4W

This week we have been using the talk for writing strategy to help the children with their sentence writing. Talk for writing involves using symbols and pictures along with words in a sentence which the children then repeat using actions to replace the pictures. This helps them to remember the sentence word for word as they write it down. Here are some of the ladies from Crew Rodgers performing sentences about dragons. Why not ask your child to perform one of the sentences they have learned?

You did brilliantly girls!

Skara Brae

This week as part of our History case study we have been looking at the stone age settlement of Skara Brae. Y5 have used their research skills to put together presentations all about Skara Brae and we have been blown away with the quality of work they have produced whilst home learning. Well done Y5

Reminder about KS1 reading quizzes

Thanks so much to everyone that has already encouraged their child to read at home and complete our reading quiz about their book.

Don’t forget that there is a money prize at the end of it and the more quizzes children complete, the more times they can be put into the draw!

Year 2 parent’s challenge 😁

The children have been having a play with lolly pop sticks today to create their own 2D shapes. They have been sharing what they know and using mathematical vocabulary to describe their properties.

Parents challenge 😉

How to help your child’s learning???

Play a game to see if your child can guess which shape you are describing, using mathematical properties, for example…

I have 4 sides, 4 corners, 4 right angles and 2 of my sides are long and 2 of my sides are short. What shape am I?

SHOUT OUT TO THE STAFF TEAM

As you are aware this week we began our lateral flow testing, I’d like to publicly appreciate the staff response to lateral flow testing and how they’ve truly embraced this in order to keep our Green Top community safe. Please see my letter posted earlier this week with further details about the lateral flow testing and any implications should we get a positive test result.

The layers of soil

In expedition this afternoon we have been looking at the different layers of soil. First, we had to draw and label the different layers. Then, to assess our learning and understanding of the layers we made out own.

Everyone was able to explain why they had picked each different layer and what it represented. Brilliant work guys!

Just keep Skimming, Just keep Skimming 🐠📚

This week, we are focussing on improving and mastering our reading skills. Yesterday, we focussed on Skimming and Scanning and accurately retrieving an answer and key information from a variety of texts.

I was really impressed with both the children at home and at school with your excellent motivation to improve your reading and the pledges you have set yourself to improve.

Well done everyone, keep up the good work!
