Today we introduced our new text – My Name is River.
The children made predictions from the front cover about what they thought our new text would be about…
We then kicked back and had some refreshments while we read the first chapter!
What a lovely relaxing reading session 🙂
A huge well done to Olivia today for the focus she showed during our phonics session to find all the ‘ay’ words in our phoneme spotter postcard and for trying very hard to follow a very tricky text which we were echo reading in our English/expedition session
Great job angel!
Today in English, we introduced our new text ‘My name is River’. We introduced the front cover piece by piece so that each group could make a prediction on what they thought our class text would be about.
Once we found out what our text was, we read the blurb to discover whether some of our predictions were accurate. We then read Chapter 1 together at the Reading Cafe whilst enjoying juice and biscuits!
Finally, we conducted a silent discussion answering lots of questions to check that we had understood the text. Fantastic work Crew Knowles!
Why not listen to the Author, Emma Read, read the first chapter of her book?
Today is the first mindful colouring session and what a gorgeous atmosphere. All the children have been so calm and embraced the mindful side of this club and watching them take time for themselves and enjoy colouring and drawing has been lovely.
Today we had the pleasure of a beautiful group of children starting their nursery year early . They have a had a fantastic day full of fun making new friends and enjoying their new play space being makers. Well done to you all and welcome to the lilies at Greentop!
This morning in Crew Jackson, we have enjoyed getting to know our new class text. First we looked at different parts of the front cover and made predictions about the setting and characters. We then enjoyed reading chapter 1 whilst eating biscuits at our reading cafe. Our silent discussion about the characters helped us further build up our background knowledge. We finished by making predictions on what ‘Dylan’ will do next and can’t wait to read chapter 2!
This week Crew Jackson have loved having the opportunity to take ownership of the classroom environment, creating and displaying their work themselves. We’ve even let the Christmas tree stay up as part of the rainforest! Today we finished off the week with a final craft session, where children used ‘how to draw’ videos to support them with drawing rainforest animals. Great work guys!
This week the children have come back to nursery with lots of smiles, its wonderful to see how they have settled so quickly after the Christmas holiday. This week we have focused on immersing our classroom for our new expedition. The children have enjoyed helping to create new displays and have loved helping the staff in nursery. We have also enjoyed exploring the ice outside yesterday morning, talking about how it was cold, smooth and hard to touch.
This week we have had lots of shining stars and today was no different. Well done to our HOWL point winner Maisie and our 2 postcard winners Hazel and Darcy!
Enjoy your weekend everyone 🙂
Year 1 tried their hand at watercolour washes today to paint these awesome underwater scenes. We invited year 2 to a silent gallery where they gave us some very useful critique on our work.
We hope you enjoyed looking at our paintings as much as we enjoyed creating them.
