London’s Burning for Year 1

Mr Kershaw helped us to do a scientific experiment this afternoon to show us exactly why London burned so quickly in 1666 during the Great Fire of London and brought our first case study to a smoking finale. First we put our Tudor box models close together, just as the houses and buildings were almost 400 years ago. The fire quickly spread from one to the next until all that was left were ashes and glowing embers. Next we lined up the houses just as close, but with a ‘fire break’ – a gap in the row – which was made in the actual event by pulling down a house with fire hooks. The experiment worked perfectly and the fire was prevented from spreading by the gap.

What an amazing way to experience history first-hand. Thank you so much Mr Kershaw for helping us to deepen our understanding in this way. Memories like these are priceless!

The Great Green Top Teacher Swap!

A huge thank you to Mrs. Wallace who came to visit us in class 6 today to read us a story as part of our Reading Week celebrations. The children loved having Mrs. Wallace as their teacher again…even if it was only for 10 minutes! We hope to see you again soon Mrs. W x

Crew Hilton/ Dutton’s visit to the library

As part of our reading week this week we have visited Thorne library. The children have really enjoyed going to the library and seeing all the different books they have and all the different places they can read them. Everyone was so sensible on our walk to and from the library and we saw some fantastic role models.

Thank you all for a lovely afternoon spent reading.

Miss Hilton, Mrs Dutton and Mrs Clay

Class 10 goes to the library! 📚

Well, it is safe to say that Class 10 loved their trip to the library this morning! We loved the walk and the fresh air to get there. More importantly, we loved exploring the library and reading and looking at lots of different books. Some of us even squeezed into the tightest spots to read a good book. We had lots of fun!
