Y5/6 Coffee afternoon- Presentation of Learning

Dear parents and carers,

We would like to invite you to see our amazing product from our Spring term expedition: ‘Fight for your rights: How can one moment influence our future?’

Y5/6 will be holding a drop-in coffee afternoon in the hall on Monday 24th March, from 2 -3 pm to view their final product and share their work from this expedition. When arriving, please go straight to the hall entering school via Ashtree Close and your child will be collected from their classroom to join you.

Please click here to complete the google form to share whether you will be attending.

The children have worked very hard on drafting and redrafting their artwork which will be showcased in an A5 wire-bound notebook; more information regarding the cost and how to purchase one will follow shortly.

As always, thanks for your continued support, The Year 5 and Year 6 Staff Team

Year 4 ‘shine’ during Science Week 2025!

This week, Year 4 had an exciting and hands-on science lesson as part of our Science Week celebrations! The children explored the topic of light and how it travels in straight lines through a fun and practical investigation.

Using torches and cardboard with small holes, the children experimented to see how light moves in a straight path and how it can be reflected and directed. They were amazed to see that when objects blocked the light, a shadow was formed—proving that light doesn’t bend around corners!

The best part? Watching the children work together, discuss their ideas, and make predictions before testing them out. Their enthusiasm and curiosity shone just as brightly as the torches!

Class 9 | Light Experiment

We kicked science week off with an experiment to prove that light travels in straight lines. We used three pieces of card and made a hole in each before shining a torch through the hole. We knew that light must travel in straight lines because we could only see the light when all three holes lined up perfectly.

To prove this further, we then moved the middle card and tried to shine the torch through it again. We could no longer see the light from the torch as the light was unable to bend around the middle card.

Class 8 science experiment 1: forces

The children learnt today about different forces and how they are a push or a pull. They then had the opportunity to work in teams to test the theory out with air (inside a balloon) pushing on air outside of the balloon to see what would happen. There was lots of fun and laughter but also lots of great learning! Super work class 8, hope you enjoyed our first experiment of science week!

Extended Study – Science Week – Day 1

What do you already know about changing state?

Build your knowledge by watching the video and link below:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zwj9r2p#zwthhcw

Can you demonstrate changing state with something you have at home?

E.g. You could freeze water and melt ice cubes, melt chocolate, boil water etc. Take photographs and send to your class teacher so we can celebrate your science learning!

Keep an eye out on the blog for tomorrows extended study challenge.

Green Top Science Week

Keep a look out on the blog this week for what we will be getting up to in our science weeks. We are planning to inspire the children with scientific experiments and visitors with scientific professions! We are very excited to see what the children know already and what they learn!

Class 12: non chronological reports

This lovely class have worked the hardest I think I have ever seen to create some lovely two page spread non chronological reports about the digestive system. They listened to advice and feedback and have thought about their layout so carefully to ensure they made the best use of space. Stay posted for some of the final finished pieces, but here they are in action working hard and showing amazing quality.
