This afternoon, Green Top have completed the great teacher swap! Mr Taylor read to Class 10 and they absolutely loved their story time. Thanks Mr T from Class 10!
Well, it is safe to say that Class 10 loved their trip to the library this morning! We loved the walk and the fresh air to get there. More importantly, we loved exploring the library and reading and looking at lots of different books. Some of us even squeezed into the tightest spots to read a good book. We had lots of fun!
What a great day of reading we’ve had from our reading block lesson to listening to our learning council read to us – we have loved it. A special thank you to Reef for fantastic reading, in hot conditions – Crew Gerrard loved it!
Our reception children have been trying really hard to improve their writing by doing it in all sorts of different ways.
Well done everyone, keep up the hard work and keep using those phonics skills.

I have not got enough praise for the writing that Class 11 have produced. This was the start and I know that it will only get better! We completed the first part of our setting description and applied our knowledge of expanded noun phrases. We created lovely descriptions to describe the farm.
Today, Class 11 have been exploring different features of narrative writing. We looked at a story about a Flood. We have been looking closely at features like fronted adverbials, conjunctions and what actually makes a great story. This included a setting description at the start to set the scene, a problem that happens in the middle and a resolution (we hope) at the end. What impressed me more though was Class 11s collaboration together. They found so many features and just cracked on with the job.
This morning, Class 11 worked superbly well together so that they could find and then understand the features of a newspaper report, in preparation for our next set of writing. We looked into headlines, fronted adverbials and how we need to use facts to get the true story out there. We’ll be practising this in the coming days, especially the 5Ws when it comes to writing introductions!
Class 11 had the task of working on posters or creating mind maps about healthy living, based on a text that gave facts about healthy food. Class 11 more than stood up to that challenge and produced some superb work. Well done, guys!
Well, Class 11 have loved World Book Day. We have had some absolutely fantastic costumes of our favourite characters and they’ve blown me away. Check them out here!
During Crew, we then went on a hunt around the class to put the pieces of the book covers together. We spoke about which book interested us the most and why. After this, we discussed our favourite books and characters, with lots of interesting discussions in pairs. This all resulted in a book review of our favourite books.
This afternoon, we looked at the purpose of a blurb and how to write one. The children then were given images or were allowed to create their own books, complete with blurb, front cover and title. Some of us loved it that much that we even started to write the first chapters of these books!
Finally, we announced the winner of our competition for the best costume, as chosen by Mrs Pearson. She chose Andrew, who dressed as Dobby from Harry Potter!
