Class 11 Narrative Learning! 📚

Today, Class 11 have been exploring different features of narrative writing. We looked at a story about a Flood. We have been looking closely at features like fronted adverbials, conjunctions and what actually makes a great story. This included a setting description at the start to set the scene, a problem that happens in the middle and a resolution (we hope) at the end. What impressed me more though was Class 11s collaboration together. They found so many features and just cracked on with the job.

Class 11 newspaper feature finders! 📰🗞️

This morning, Class 11 worked superbly well together so that they could find and then understand the features of a newspaper report, in preparation for our next set of writing. We looked into headlines, fronted adverbials and how we need to use facts to get the true story out there. We’ll be practising this in the coming days, especially the 5Ws when it comes to writing introductions!

Class 11 World Book Day!

Well, Class 11 have loved World Book Day. We have had some absolutely fantastic costumes of our favourite characters and they’ve blown me away. Check them out here!

During Crew, we then went on a hunt around the class to put the pieces of the book covers together. We spoke about which book interested us the most and why. After this, we discussed our favourite books and characters, with lots of interesting discussions in pairs. This all resulted in a book review of our favourite books.

This afternoon, we looked at the purpose of a blurb and how to write one. The children then were given images or were allowed to create their own books, complete with blurb, front cover and title. Some of us loved it that much that we even started to write the first chapters of these books!

Finally, we announced the winner of our competition for the best costume, as chosen by Mrs Pearson. She chose Andrew, who dressed as Dobby from Harry Potter!

Class 11 Beautiful Work!

Here are some of the great and beautiful pieces of work that Class 11 have produced this week. I am blown away by the presentation on show from not just these books but others. The children have improved and we have even looked in our books from the start of the year to show off our amazing progress. Keep making it hard to choose pieces to show off!

Class 11 peer critique! 📝

Yesterday, Class 11 critiqued each others scientific reports. We worked collaboratively to ensure that our feedback was specific and accurate to push each others learning on. Here we are in action!

Keep an eye out when we’ll pick our favourite pieces of work and some of the most beautiful!

Active Reading! 📖

Class 11 have also completed some active reading learning today, whereby we learnt all about conductors and insulators! This was a great way to build background knowledge for our next learning of CS1, but also improve on our learning skills!
