EYFS Sponsored Walk

On Wednesday we had such a fabulous time doing our sponsored walk to raise funds for DRI. The children were dressed as Superheroes. . . with kindness being our superpower of the day!

It was a bit soggy and a bit chilly but the children did not let this put them off! Well done everyone for being Greentop superheroes!!

Nursery – Learning focus this week

This week in phonics we are singing ‘The Wheels on the bus’ with emphasis on onomatopoeia. The children worked really hard today and I was impressed with how many were able to give me an example of a word that sounded like the action. E.g. swish, stomp, clap, beep.

In Literacy and expedition we are reading the story ‘Goldilocks and the three bears’ and focusing on how Goldilocks was not kind in the story and how she could have made better choices. Here we are today enjoying reading the story in the Autumn sunshine whilst we had our afternoon snack.

In maths we are looking at how we can create repeating patterns using 2 and 3 objects. I wonder…can you have a go at creating your own repeating pattern at home?

You could use toys, cars, leaves, sticks, conkers – anything you fancy!

Nursery – singing with Geoff

What a wonderful start to our day! Geoff and Hedgerly the Hedgehog came to visit our Nursery to compose the the opening line to our new Green Top School song. The children all worked hard to think of words they associated with ‘belonging’ and ‘kindness’. We can’t wait for you to hear our song…it is very special!

Nursery – Kindness wands

Today we went for an Autumn walk to collect sticks and leaves. The children then practised their scissor skills to snip leaf confetti. Using the sticks we attached cardboard stars using tape and decorated them with our leaf confetti and added a touch of glitter to add a little magic and sparkle.

Our wands resemble kindness and that we all have kindness magic inside of us. How will you spread kindness today?

Class 7 Science Experiment

This week, in writing, we have been working on the Three Little Pigs. As part of science, we thought that the story linked perfectly to materials and building. We decided to test the best materials to build a house to withstand the Big, Bad Wolf. Some materials were far better than others. Other materials were tricky to build a house with. This required great collaboration, which became better and better as our experiment went on! The wooden and plastic blocks were the best material to use.
