Proud Teacher Moment at the VE Day Service

Today was one of those days when you remember why you became a teacher!

Paisley, Erin, Myla, George, Olivia, Willow, Willow, Macky, Reeva and Gabby were invited to read a poem at the VE Day Memorial service in Thorne Park this morning and I was so proud of the children and the way that even the very youngest of them seemed to understand that although it was a celebration of the end of the war, it was also a solemn occasion which they were attending to show respect.

Winston Churchill once said  – “Those that fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it’ – so the chance to attend events such as these where they can begin to understand the devastating effects of war will hopefully ingrain in them the importance of peace.

You were a credit to yourselves, your families and our school.

You were all awesome!

VE Day Celebrations – Moorends Community Centre!

This afternoon, we had the privilege of being invited to the VE Day celebrations being hosted by Thorne and Moorends Town Council at Moorends Community Centre. 20 children that are Crew Councillors, Ambassadors and some of our Wizard of Oz cast went to support and perform.

The children served 100 guests with their afternoon tea whilst enjoying a performance from The Bowkers. They then enjoyed their own meal before taking to the stage to perform a selection of songs from their upcoming production!

Every child was an absolute credit to our school and every member of staff was bursting with pride – some even shed a few tears! Hearing such lovely things being said about our children by members of the community, local MP’s and councillors was such a highlight!

Members of the community were so proud of our children that they even began a collection raising over £200 which will support us massively when preparing costumes and stage design – a huge, huge thank you from all the children and staff involved!

Here is a little taster video of just how special our afternoon has been!
