Reception: Community Crew 29th September

Another wonderful Community Crew session this week!

It was a real joy to see the children singing together so beautifully in the hall, a lovely moment of unity and celebration that truly captured the spirit of our school community.

This week, the children have also given shout-outs to their fellow crew members, recognising those who have demonstrated fantastic HOWLs (Habits of Work and Learning). It’s been heartwarming to witness the genuine support and encouragement they’re showing one another – a true reflection of our shared values.

A huge well done to Verity and Storm, our HOWL Point winners this week! Both have shown consistent kindness, worked hard, and demonstrated a real commitment to getting smart, a brilliant effort from you both.

Congratulations also to Ella and Clementine, who received our very first Healthy Eating postcards for always eating all of their school dinners. Keep it up!

And finally, a special congratulations to our Crew Champions this week: Henry from Crew Wallace and Jayden from Crew Jones. Your efforts and attitudes have truly stood out, a well-deserved recognition!

Well done to everyone for a fantastic week!

Nursery: Autumn Nature Walk

The nursery children went on a nature walk this morning to explore how our environment is changing in Autumn. We talked about the weather and linked our senses to the environment around us. The children came up with some great sentences and adjectives to describe the season and were excellent at following rules and routines when moving around our school.

Excellent work Nursery Crew!

Nursery: Beautiful expedition work

The children in Nursery are learning about families this week. We are discussing how families come in all shapes and sizes and what our individual families are like. We are exploring the beautiful family photos you have kindly sent in and have started drawing who lives in our house.

The children worked so hard and maintained great focus to create their drawings. We are continuing this throughout the week and will proudly display them in our home corner.

Year 3 – RE: The Story of Moses

Last week, Year 3 continued their RE learning around the Jewish religion and its stories about God’s promises. We learned about the story of Moses, from his escape as a baby in a Moses basket on the River Nile to his victory in leading his people out of slavery and through the Red Sea itself. To consolidate their learning, children reenacted scenes from the story and created story maps to retell the tale. Why not ask your child to retell you the story and see how much they can recall? Can they remember the ten plagues that God sent to Egypt to help Moses in persuading the pharaoh to release his slaves?

Extended Study – Are you up for the kindness challenge?

Next week is NSPCC Kindness Week, to celebrate the week we are hoping to see lots of you demonstrating one of our HOWL’s – ‘Be Kind’ and showing lots of compassion.

There will be some added activities and challenges next week but to get us prepared let’s see how many of you can tick off some of the challenges on the kindness grid. You could even have a go at creating your own kindness grid for your crew to complete!

Can you share some photographs of how you have shown kindness this week? Remember to share your story in Crew next Monday!

Year 1: Phonics

This week in phonics Miss Schön and Miss Rodgers group have been learning /ou/ ‘Shout it out!’.

We have been reading the book ‘An Outing in the Woods’. We have discussed the the vocabulary and the meaning of different words and phrases.

We now know 2 differerent /ow/ sounds

/ow/ as in cow, brown and town

/ou/ as in out, shout and loud

We have also learned that words can end in el or le and the ‘e’ is silent

We have also learned that when there is a ‘st‘ next to each other the ‘t’ is silent

This was a lot of leaning but the children have been doing so well with this! Keep it up boys and girls and don’t forget to practice as often as possible so that you can beat your ‘word count per minute’ scores!

Class 5: Great Fire of London

Wow what a week we have had in Class 5. Behaviour and learning attitudes have been fantastic! I am so proud of all of the children. This week was our final week in Case Study 1: The Great Fire of London. The children have been so excited about this learning. They have amazed me with all the facts they can recall. They have produced some beautiful pieces of artwork and writing and we have been singing lots of songs!

This week we have been extremely lucky to have an amazing drama workshop as well as recreating how the fire spread with Mr Kershaw! Here are a few photographs showcasing all of our wonderful work – I feel I need to put together a video of highlights to showcase our activities as it really has been so much fun!

Year 1: Phonics Drop In
