We’ve had a great day today at Crucial Crew learning important life skills that will help to keep us safe but also help us to be a good citizen!
Y6 visited the Lifewise Centre today to participate in the Crucial Crew programme. The Lifewise Centre provides the children with essential knowledge and skills to be able to keep safe in the local community.
Some of the different scenarios included road safety, transport safety, fire safety, water safety and a mock trial in a Magistrates’ Court! All of the scenarios are taught by volunteering experts from South Yorkshire Police, South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue and the South Yorkshire Safer Roads Partnership.
The children participated in all of the scenarios showing real maturity and thoughtfulness. Check out the slide show below.
We have been learning about our bodies and how we can keep ourselves healthy with exercise, a balanced diet and keeping ourselves clean. We have had lots of fun drawing around each other and making posters! Great work guys x
We had lots of fun last night at our half term disco! There was lots of dancing, a lot of smiling and loads of sweets eaten by the children. Can’t wait for the next one already!
Thanks again to the friends of Green Top as these discos couldn’t happen if it weren’t for you! Thankyou for raising money to support our school to be even better!
What a fabulous community crew assembly we have had! Our stewards, HOWL point winners, numbots heroes, tt rockstar champs and reading book winners have all been celebrated!
A huge special mention for our Crew Champions this week too, it was lovely to hear all of the reasons why you won this week. You look so smart in your lanyard and badge!
Also, well done to Crew Schon for being our attendance winners this week! Well done and keep it up!
Crew Schon were absolutely thrilled to finally win the weekly attendance last week. We now have some money in our new kitty! We also received Paddington in assembly this afternoon and he will be living in our Crew room until our next Community Crew Assembly. One more day this week – I wonder if we can be winners again?
Don’t forget tomorrow is reading books day! Please make sure all reading books are returned tomorrow so that children’s phonics books/homework can be updated in their phonics groups. We have seen huge improvement in children’s confidence, enjoyment and fluency since starting our new home reading strategy. Thank you so much for all your support with this. It is so lovely to hear comments from parents about their child’s achievements at home!
This week in Phonics we have been covering the following sound. The sounds will be sent out for the children to be practising to recognise the digraph, say the digraph and then write the grapheme.
The children are really starting to learn and retain those sounds but will need support to blend those sounds together. Have a go at the green words and the more they hear those sounds being blended the easier it will become. There is a sentence to read on the bottom of the sheet also. Reading this and also reading the reading books that the children now have will all help to increase and improve the children’s fluency in their reading.
Thanks
Mrs Wallace and Mrs Jones.
KS2 children had a blast at our Valentine’s Day Disco yesterday – lots of hotdogs, dancing and sweets were enjoyed by all 🙂 Mr Mumby took to the decks and by children’s request, the highly acclaimed tune – ‘Sigma Boy’ – had the school hall jumping like never before!
Reception children looked fabulous in their disco outfits. We has such a great time at our school disco. We dance the afternoon away and even had a great sing along to a couple of songs.
