A Book and a Bun 📖🧁

We started our morning in a really fun way with our ‘Book and a Bun’ session in Nursery. The children loved sharing stories with a sweet treat and it was lovely to have some parents to stay to read too! We’re going to be repeating these sessions again on Wednesday 27 April, Wednesday 18 May and Wednesday 15 June. We hope you’ll be able to join us.

This Week in Phonics…

Nursery crew are getting better at identifying words that rhyme and making up our own rhyming strings such as log, dog, frog, tog, wog and tip, lip, ship, dip, yip (this can include nonsense words too!). We have also been sharing lots of different books that rhyme such as Duck on a Truck to help us hear the rhyming couplets.

We also have a catchy song to sing when we find a pair of words that rhyme…. Why don’t you have a practice at home? We love singing this in our phonics sessions…

Cat and bat
Cat and bat
They both sound the same
Cat and bat
Cat and bat
They both sound the same, they rhyme!
(To the tune of jingle bells)

We’d love to hear about any rhyming you do at home through Google Classroom. Maybe you could upload a video of you singing the rhyming song or of your own rhyming string?🎶

Run, Run As Fast As You Can…

Today we hooked into Case Study Three in our current Expedition by sharing our key text ‘The Gingerbread Man’. All children then started to create their own Gingerbread Man or Woman using salt dough. We’re now waiting for them to dry out so we can paint them and add decorative features later in the week. I’m looking forward to seeing the final products!

A Book and a Bun

Join us in Nursery on Wednesday 9th March from 8.30-9.10 to share a book with your children and indulge in a sweet treat.

Sharing a book with your child can help develop their vocabulary and support their early literacy skills as well as a love of reading.

We hope you can join us next week.

The Nursery Team

Happy Pancake Day! 🥞

This morning the nursery children learned all about Pancake Day. They listened to the story of Mr Wolf’s Pancakes and discussed what ingredients you need you make the batter. Mrs Woolridge then made lots and lots of pancakes for the children to enjoy out in the sunshine! Their favourite topping was chocolate sauce! 😋 We also enjoyed creating pancake faces in a cutting and sticking activity.
