Crew Jackson – We do love an arithmetic test!

In Crew Jackson we genuinely do love our monthly arithmetic test! The competition was on and everyone was determined to beat their April score. I was so impressed with their attitudes and hard work. They well and truly smashed it and I could not be prouder of each and everyone of them. Take a look at the focus on their faces in the photos below.

Crew Jackson – Let’s dance!

On Friday afternoon after a downpour at lunchtime, we decided to do dance in the classroom instead of risk the weather and slippy grass for cricket. What a fantastic decision! It was great to see everyone joining in, getting a fabulous workout and having fun as a crew. I loved it and as you can see in the pictures the kids did too!

Y5/6 Family Learning Reminder

On Tuesday 24th May at 1:45pm it is our Y5 and Y6 Family Learning event. The children will be asked to select from a range of activities that link to our expedition ‘How can a healthy lifestyle impact our mind and body?’. Many of these activities will be taking place outdoors and we suggest you come suitably dressed for if your child selects to do a sporting activity.

We hope you can join us!

Crew Jackson – Focused on producing our best writing

Today in Crew Jackson we began our draft touchdown writing. The children are writing a diary entry through the eyes of Cameron, the main character in our class text ‘Pig heart boy’. The children were so focused on ensuring they produced their best written work, including many of the features of a diary as well as grammar features from year 5. I can’t wait to read the final written pieces as the children showed so much empathy with the character and really considered his thoughts and feelings.

Well done guys!

Times Tables Rockstars Day! 🎤🎸

Check out our video from Times Tables Rockstars Day!

Now this is dedication to practicing your reading!

Check out how dedicated Summer-Mai is to practicing her reading outside of school. I love how Summer-Mai has combined two of her favourite past times – dancing and reading! If she isn’t dancing or doing gymnastics then you will always see her settling down to enjoy a good book. Keep up the hard work Summer-Mai! 🙂

We are biologists!

This week Crew Jackson have hooked themselves into our Biology case study. We have learnt about the main parts of the circulatory system, focusing on the parts of the heart and their functions. Yesterday, we dissected a lamb’s heart to deepen our knowledge and understanding. I was so impressed with their attitude to something that was completely different and out of our comfort zone. Well done everyone with a great week of expedition. 🙂

Hooked into our new class text

This morning in year 5 we introduced the new class text to the children. The children were given different snapshots of the front cover and had great discussions about what they could infer and predict about the book. They eventually worked out that the book was called Pig Heart Boy.

I loved listening to the children’s discussions and hearing them apply their scientific learning from yesterday’s expedition lesson as we read and discussed the first two chapters. Silent discussion was used to reflect on chapter one and the children were fab at reading and agreeing with others comments. It is not often Crew Jackson can have a discussion without talking!
