Excavation Excitement in Class 8

Today, Class 8 have been putting their expeditionary learning to good use and they have become archaeologists on the hunt for artefacts in our outdoor quad! We followed the steps of a real excavation to unearth the remains of some ‘not so old’ plates and cups.

Another ‘ROCKstar’ afternoon.

Following on from our rock work yesterday, we had a look at the different properties of rocks. We completed lots of different tests on the rocks to test for permeability, density and durability.

Becoming ‘ROCKstars’!

In expedition this week we have been learning all about the different rocks. We went on a treasure hunt in the quad to see what different rocks we could find.

Finding Lines of Symmetry

Class 8 have been learning about lines of symmetry in 2D shapes. Today, we cut out some common 2D shapes and folded them to find their lines of symmetry …

The layers of soil

In expedition this afternoon we have been looking at the different layers of soil. First, we had to draw and label the different layers. Then, to assess our learning and understanding of the layers we made out own.

Everyone was able to explain why they had picked each different layer and what it represented. Brilliant work guys!

Did you feel that?

Class 10 produced some fantastic work in expedition yesterday. We spent the lesson looking at the Mercalli Intensity Scale before the children had a go at making their own. It was lovely to see children in school and at home producing such fantastic work.

Don’t forget you can head to our expedition site to complete the further study task.

How are mountains formed?

Today, we have been looking at how mountains are formed and the different names for the different mountain formations. The children really enjoyed the hands on activities as you can see from the pictures.

I wonder if anyone can comment below and name one of the mountain formations.
