A busy half term in Class 14!

Wow! What a half term we have had! We have covered so much since Easter and produced some beautiful work.

In expedition, we started with case study 1 where we looked at music. We looked at the song ’Down in the Coal mine’ and split into groups to practise different parts of the song and add percussion. Many of you joined us for our family learning event which was a great success with some brilliant song writing.

We then moved onto case study 2 – history. For this case study, we started by creating a class timeline looking at the key events of mining in Britain. We’ve also looked at what life was like for the children who worked down the mine using freeze frames to get into character.

In English, we have done lots of fantastic writing. We have challenged ourself to use figurative language and description to create a narrative poem, character description and setting description. Everyone has challenged themselves to include a range of features.

In maths, we have spent time looking at the four main operations: addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. We have applied our skills to answer a range of reasoning and problem solving questions. This week we have started looking at fractions, decimals and percentages which we will continue with after half term.

In crew, we have completed out community crew sessions where we have looked at the importance of having a healthy lifestyle. We found out about Eurovision and completed our coronation activities. It was also nice to get outside and enjoy the sunshine with our A – Z scavenger hunt.

Green Top celebrates King Charles’ Coronation!

Take a look at the celebrations that happened across school over the last couple of weeks to celebrate the King’s Coronation – we all had lots of fun!

An extra shout out to the KS2 choir for singing the backing vocals to the video.

Hope you all enjoy!

Year 5 Family Learning

Come and join us on Tuesday 2nd May at 2 o’clock for our family learning.

We would like to invite you to join the children as we continue our music case study. You will be able to work with the children and take part in a range of activities to have a go at writing your very own mining song.

Y5/6 EPIC activities

Some of our Y5 & 6 students have been enjoying taking part in our new provision, EPIC.

Our in-school sessions focus on preparing Y6 pupils for life at secondary school and explores ideas and issues to help them navigate future experiences in society. The course covers areas such as bullying, crime and internet safety.

EPIC also offers Y5/6 students an after-school club which focuses on collaboration and problem solving skills through team games and challenges. This club runs on a Thursday evening, 3-4pm.

Whilst EPIC is offered to pupils via invite only, we do have some spaces left on the after-school club. If your Y5/6 child is interested in joining please contact your child’s class teacher for more information.

Y5&6 Community Crew

Thursday saw our first UKS2 community crew of the summer term and it was clear that all our crews have got off to a great start. Top of the agenda was the battle for accelerated reader, with Crew Ambler still clinging tightly onto first place … which crew will overcome them first?

Congratulations go out to all those children receiving shout outs & HoWL certificates this week, and a huge well done goes to all of this week’s OOTW superstars – keep up your fabulous work!

Class 14 Skipping Week

We’ve had a great start to the week and have completed more than 1500 skips or jumps each day! I wonder if we can end the week with even more!
