Class 15 at the Book Fair!

This morning, Class 15 enjoyed a crew treat with a visit to the book fair. We checked out the different books on offer and were even able to read a page or two of the ones we liked best. To end our session, we shared two of the picture books as a crew read.

The book fair is still in school at the start of next week so don’t forget to pay a visit and treat yourself to some new reads!

Year 5: D -Day Assembly with the Royal British Legion

Today, Year 5 enjoyed an assembly from Mick at the Royal British Legion. We learned all about the D-Day landings and why they are so important to our history, as well as finding out about the different ways in which the 80th Anniversary of D-Day will be celebrated tomorrow. Mick is Thorne’s Town Crier and he gave us a sneak preview of the important announcement that he will be making tomorrow morning at 8am to kick-start the celebrations (which will take place in Memorial Park throughout the day).

Year 5 – First Aid Workshop

Year 5 have enjoyed a first aid workshop today, as part of our expedition focus on healthy bodies. Children learnt about how to respond if they come across an injured person or somebody who might be choking. They were also shown the correct method for chest compressions.

We hope the children never need to use any of the skills they have learned today but, if they ever do, hopefully they will be much better prepared to do so. To help children remember the information learned today, they have all taken away an information booklet alongside their certificate. Well done everyone!

Class 15 – keeping our minds healthy through activity

In this morning’s crew session, we learned all about how physical activity can actually help our minds to feel fitter and healthier too. To put this into practice, we all completed a good morning jog by running a few laps around the 3G pitch and I think the smiles speak for themselves!

Crew Dutton – Team Building Games in the Sunshine

Last Friday, part of Crew Dutton were out for bikeability in the sun. To keep ourselves busy back in class, the rest of us enjoyed some crew games out on the playground. Children enjoyed playing lava and trying their best to find safe passage for all their team across the molten floor – unfortunately only a few survived … just!
