In expedition today, the children have been learning where rocks come from and how scientists classify rocks by how they were made or formed. They designed their own posters to show their understanding of the three major types of rocks: Igneous, Metamorphic and Sedimentary.
A big shout out to year 4 for their brilliant recounts! We have been very impressed with the children in school and also all the hard work and editing of the children at home. Keep it up year 4!
Year 4 have been learning about the formation of soil in their expedition lessons. They researched and drew the different layers of soil, ranging from the dark, rich topsoil to the underlying bedrock, rocky layers.
In G block last week, again inspired by their expedition learning, the children sketched preliminary drawings of Hokusai’s The Great Wave before using watercolours to paint their artwork. I think they look fantastic!
The children worked so hard reading and writing the time on analogue and digital clocks and converting between the two.
The children have been enjoying the high quality texts used as part of our expedition. This week we have enjoyed analysing the book called ‘the pebble in my pocket’ and it’s journey through time. The children had to scan the text in order to find the specific information. Well done Y4!
The children made origami paper boats today and had lots of fun when they went outside and tested them to see if they would actually float…and they did!
We also talked a lot about what other materials would be good for floating and they came up with plastic water bottles, sponge, wood and leather like on footballs.
Great work year 4 from Mrs Hardman!

Take a look at these examples of high quality expedition work. The children have skilfully used coloured inks before adding a mono print volcano over the top. Utterly outstanding work! Keep an eye out over the next few days for more examples on our expedition site (which can be found here: https://sites.google.com/greentopschool.org/expedition-2-2021/hook-week )
