Representing Number in Maths

The children enjoyed using a range of equipment to represent the numbers 10-15 today. We discussed how these numbers were made up of 10 and some more. Some of the children also discussed other ways of making the number drawing on their previous knowledge e.g 14 is:

10 + 4

10 + 3 + 1

10 + 2 + 2

We also found out that:

15 = 5 + 5 + 5

20 = 10 + 10

What super maths!

Expedition Hook

This week the children were excited to see a mysterious box that had been delivered to our class. The box had reportedly been found deep under the school grounds and we wondered how long it might have been hiding under the soil. The children were very excited about what the box might hold and we had some wonderful guesses as to what might be inside the box.

When we opened the box we found a postcard from a lady called Betty. She had written all about a seaside holiday she had been on but it sounded a little different from the holidays we have today. There were lots of photographs inside the box but they had no colours on them and it was hard to see the sea! The children were surprised to see that the people were wearing their smart clothes to the seaside such as suits, top hats, blouses and long skirts! They also found it funny that they had wooden huts to get changed into their swimming clothes and when they opened the door to the hut they were suddenly in the sea!

The awe and wonder on the children’s faces was a joy to see! We are very excited to see where our expedition takes us this term.

Welcome Back!

It was so lovely to see all the children back in school this morning. We had such a lovely day. The children enjoyed sharing their holidays in our crew circle and talking about their Easter hunts!

A huge well done to all the children who took part in our Decorated Egg competition at the end of the last half term. All of the eggs were amazing and the children loved showing them off in our crew circles. The children voted for their favourites and in Class 3 Matilda was our winner with her wonderful Nemo egg . We also awarded Ava a prize for being a close second place as we thought she had done a wonderful job decorating her egg all by herself!

Look at all of our wonderful entries in Class 3!

Red Nose Day 🔴

Well done to the winners of the ‘Design a Red Nose’ competition! There were some fantastic entries but the school council voted and decided that these would be the winning entries. Well done to all who submitted an entry.

We are also pleased to announce that the school managed to sell £300 worth of red noses in the run up to the event before raising a further £301.58 through donations when wearing something red. Thank you to every one for your generous donations!

F2 Celebration of Learning

A huge thank you to all of our adults and experts who came along yesterday to help us celebrate our expeditionary learning. We are hugely proud of what the children achieve each and every day and of the young people they are becoming. We have made some wonderful relationships with people in our community and we can’t wait to do more together! We are already super excited for our summer expedition and are looking forward to being Early years Explorers and answering the question ‘What happens where the sea meets the shore?’

We wish you all a very happy Easter with lots of fun and chocolate!

The Easter Story

Today we had two lovely ladies named Linda visit to immerse us in Easter! We had a beautiful sensory story, had fun with a palm tree puppet and were so lucky to take home a story book and chocolate egg. Thank you to all parents who donated to this charitable cause enabling these lovely activities to happen in schools.
