Y6 are researchers!

As part of our English cycle we completed our reading lesson today which involved researching and retrieving information from some given websites.

In particular, we were looking at poison dart frogs, orangutans and tigers – did you know these animals are endangered?

Look out for our upcoming art work and speeches which will involve these animals!

Red Nose Day!

A reminder that red noses will continue to be on sale this week up until the day itself. They are priced at £1.50 per red nose and we only have a limited number remaining so make sure that you get yours bought early! School councillors will be bringing them round during morning crew.

Red Nose Day 🔴

Friday 18th March 2020 is Red Nose Day in the UK. At Green Top we will be raising money for the event by selling red nose’s. Red nose’s will go on sale from tomorrow and school councillors will be bringing them to each class in the mornings, priced at £1.50. On the day, we will also be raising money by wearing something red and bringing in a £1 donation. To go along with this, the school council have also thought of some activities that we will be doing in the afternoon.

Celebrating Jaiden! 🥷

Jaiden was a finalist in his first ever martial arts competition in 4 areas: sparring, grappling, forms and sports swords.

Jaiden came a fantastic 2nd place in sparring, grappling and forms but he came an amazing first place in sports swords!

Well done, Jaiden! We are super proud of you!

Arithmetic Crew Session

In crew this morning, everyone in Crew Knowles looked at their past arithmetic papers and picked out the questions that they have previously struggled with.

This will really support everyone individually in the run up to SATs to really practise and apply the skills that they don’t feel as confident with.

Crew Knowles become storytellers!

In reading today, each group were given a set of images from a book. They didn’t know the title of the book and had no context around it either! Each group had to use their inference skills to tell a story based on the images alone. I was so impressed with their skills and picking out the important themes such as deforestation.

Well done, Crew Knowles! You have really worked hard today!

Magic Maths

Crew Knowles enjoyed Magic Maths today focusing on strategies to support with remembering the 9 times tables. We focused on the patterns we could see and then applied our knowledge by playing a game. Well done to Gracie-Mae our winner!

Reading Fluency

Y6 practised their reading fluency skills by performing speeches from our expedition books. Each group read their speech fluently with great passion to protect our endangered species!
