can’t wait to see the finished pieces.
The children in Nursery are learning about families this week. We are discussing how families come in all shapes and sizes and what our individual families are like. We are exploring the beautiful family photos you have kindly sent in and have started drawing who lives in our house.
The children worked so hard and maintained great focus to create their drawings. We are continuing this throughout the week and will proudly display them in our home corner.
This week the children will be creating large scale art work on cotton to explore sensory techniques and develop an understanding of paint and colour. We plan on adding to the fabric every day this week to create large scale CREW art which we will display in our Nursery next week.
Over the last few weeks in G Block year 1 have been producing artwork linked to their expedition The Great Fire Of London.
Here are some examples below….
A massive shout out to Layla for producing an excellent watercolour linked to our expedition learning on rainforests.
This week has been all about getting ourselves hooked into the learning that we are about to embark on throughout Autumn term … in particular, our exciting new expedition all about the Romans – Coming to Doncaster; Why Then, Why Now?
Children have enjoyed getting to grips with geography to find out where Rome is in the world and they have got stuck in to all of our new expedition books! In reading, we have explored the historical story book, Vlad and the Roman Triumph and we have been learning all about the Roman armies and their armour. We made our own helmets and designed our own shields, as well as making dolly peg soldiers. In maths, we learned about timelines and calendars, and we even found out about Roman numerals before linking these to the clock and having a go at making our own! We were amazed by the history of the Roman colosseum and had a go at sketching this as carefully as possible. Then, we wrapped up all our learning with an amazing dress-up and workshop day where we were able to impress our expert visitors with the knowledge we already had about the Romans and their invasions.
At home, why not ask us about the different designs on a Roman shield and what they represent? And, why was red the colour of their military?
Today the children in Mr Mumby’s class have had a lovely sketching session at having a go at a colosseum linked to their expedition.
I wanted to share some wonderful home learning from Charlotte in Year 4. Over the holidays, Charlotte carefully crafted a stunning picture of the Colosseum using small tiles to create a detailed mosaic.
Her creativity, patience and attention to detail are clear to see — it is a truly impressive piece of work! The mosaic has already sparked great interest and discussion in class, making it the perfect talking point to kick off our brand-new expedition on the Romans.
Well done, Charlotte — what a fantastic way to start our year!
Last Friday saw the return of our Green Top Arts Festival, a day totally dedicated to the Arts and performance – in all its guises! To start the day, children were able to select from a wide range of teacher-led workshops – from dance to cartoon drawing to music and singing – there really was something for everyone!
I thoroughly enjoyed working with the fabulous bunch of pupils who opted for my performance poetry session, where children worked collaboratively to recite and perform a poem all about different types of animals. I was blown away by the leadership and teamwork on display in the different groups, and even more so by the fabulous performances crafted by the children themselves in such a short time. Well done everyone! Mrs Dutton x
