Who will crack the code and open the safe?

Starting from today, if you score 100% on your Accelerated Reader quiz three times in a row, you get to have a go at opening the safe. If you crack the code then you get to win the contents!

Good luck guys!

Decimals work in Crew Jackson

This morning we grappled with our maths learning as we learnt about multiplying and dividing decimals by 10, 100 and 1000. We had to apply our knowledge about place value to support us with our understanding. We used place value grids to support us in our understanding.

Check out the videos below to help you with your understanding.

Collins Big Cat online books

Collins Big Cat ebook libraries

Dear Parents and carers,

As a school last year we subscribed to Collins Big Cat ebooks.  This gives teachers access to over 1000 reading books online, including 256 fully decodable phonics ebook readers.

Your child’s teacher has assigned them access to books at an appropriate reading level. Should the books assigned be too easy, too hard or ones they have already read please let your child’s class teacher know.   Some of the books can be quizzed on Accelerated Reader and a list will be available in KS2 classrooms for children to check against.

Please see the attached parent’s guide on how to access your child’s account at home.

Please note the Collins eBooks app is available for iOS from the App Store and for android devices on the Google Play Store. The app is free to download, and you can log in using the same details.

When using the app, you can download books to your device, after which you can then access them without needing to be connected to the internet.

If you have any problems please ask class teachers or email [email protected] and they will forward the email to me.

This week’s Y1 spellings and phonics sounds.

Good afternoon

This weeks phonics focus sounds will be…
Oy as in boy, ir as in girl, ue as in glue and in cue, aw as in paw

Our weekly spellings are…
said, you, joy, loyal, twirl, third, due, glue, straw, law

Any help you could give your child with recognising the sounds and practising the spellings would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks for your continued support and to all those who practised last week’s spellings. It really does make a massive difference for the children to see that the work they do in school is considered just as important at home.

Shout Outs

This week the children have been very motivated in all their learning. These children have caught our attention for their excellent learning attitudes.

Jack and Charlie worked together for a long period of time. They practised forming their letters correctly and then moved on to writing addition sums. They gave each other positive critique and if something did not go to plan they persevered until they got it right.

Willow made a rollercoaster in sunset club and brought it in to show her class. We thought this was a brilliant piece of engineering and it inspired other children to have a go themselves. She also made a super long rollercoaster which we will be using on our expedition display.

Thomas is always super motivated to do his homework and completes at least one piece every week. This week he has inspired children to make box models by sharing his box model haunted house, he has been baking and he has also joined in with his sisters homework and made a jellyfish. The children loved his jellyfish so much that it inspired even more jellyfish to be made in our creative area.

Charlotte has been working at home this week and the children have loved seeing that she has been doing the same activities that we have in class. The children enjoyed sending Charlotte messages about her work.

More reasons to celebrate

Look at the joy on these little faces!

Imogen was our Out of This World certificate winner this week and I’m sure you will agree yellow really suits her!

Haran, Junior, Radu, Kalab, Shae and Rhys are this weeks postcard winners. You all showed awesome habits of learning and I am so proud of each and every one of you x

Class 6 certificate winners

A huge shout out to our certificate winners from Thursday’s phase assembly, which was held in separate classrooms this week. Ezra, Thea, Kalab and Rhys gained their bronze reading certificates, and Junior, Nathaniel and Harrison won our Work Hard, Be Kind and Get Smart awards respectively. Imogen was the proud winner of our HoWL point certificate and Rhys our reading champion.

Well done everyone x

What makes a great setting description?

Today it was a pleasure to teach English to both my Crew and Crew Faulding. In groups, the children read through a model text of a setting description which was taken from our new Class text. They then identified the features that had been included and spoke about the purpose of each feature.

I was so impressed with all the children’s knowledge as well as their collaborative skills and how kind and helpful they were to each other! I can’t wait to see lots of great writing features in our extended write on Monday!

YORKSHIRE WILDLIFE PARK!

Here are some more pictures of Year 4 enjoying our day at YWP yesterday. We had such a great time seeing all the animals and learning lots of amazing facts about Polar Bears and how they survive in the wild.

A big well done to you all for your fab behaviour representing the school yesterday.
