Features of a newspaper report

Class 8 were unpicking the features of a newspaper report today. They worked together in groups to discuss the meaning of the features and then highlight them in the newspaper report that their group had. There were some super conversations about vocabulary. I can’t wait to build up their writing and see these features included in their own work!

Recap your modal verbs

Today in Crew Jackson we focused our SPAG learning on modal verbs. The children enjoyed the above song, which recapped the different modal verbs we can use to show certainty and possibility. Now you can enjoy the song at home too!

Deepening our reading skills

Today our reading fluency task was a page from our new class text ‘Can we save the tiger?’. We read all about partula snails and then completed 5 minute reading challenge questions, practicing our retrieval skills.

Post card Winner!!

Chayce your learning attitude today has blown me away, you have tried so hard in all of your learning and have followed all of our crew norms. Your phonics blew me away.

Keep up the hard work

F2 Fieldwork visit to Austerfield tomorrow

We hope you’ve had a lovely week back so far and are looking forward to our visit to Austerfield study centre tomorrow.

Please can all children arrive at the usual time so that we can register everyone and be on the coaches ready to leave promptly. All children will need to bring a packed lunch with them, unless they have asked for one to be provided by school. The coach will leave Austerfield by 2.30pm to make sure we are back in time for the end of the school day.

Please could we ask that all children dress appropriately for the outdoor weather… the forecast is looking better as we move through the day tomorrow and we’re hoping it stays that way!

If you have any questions or queries please email Miss Carter @. [email protected]

Looking forward to seeing you all in the morning!

Academic crew

Crew Shaw were looking at their arithmetic tests today and sharing methods they could have used to answer the questions related to the 4 operations. We have decided to do sticky maths every day to help to embed the methods that they can use to see if it helps to improve next month’s arithmetic score.

Their dedication to improve their own scores is amazing!!!!

Paired reading

The children are learning about newspaper reports and today spent time shared reading a WAGOLL and searching for the features that we have been learning about. I can see the concentration on their faces in these pictures…super progression today in terms of understanding the text and the language used.

Well done, Mrs Shaw x

Please help class 8

Our next case study is art and we would like to create a sculpture using a variety of metal items. If anyone has anything metal that they think we could use we would be extremely grateful 🙏

Some possible ideas are:

*cutlery

*nuts, bolts, screws

*metal bottle tops

*ring pulls from cans or tins

*bike chains or spokes

*spanners or tools

*chicken wire

Thank you so much from class 8 and Mrs Shaw x
