Natural sculptures

Class 6 spent Wednesday afternoon studying the work of Andy Goldsworthy, who creates amazing sculptures from natural objects such as stone, leaves and ice. The children then ventured out into the beautiful sunshine to create sculptures of their own. Tallon received the learning legend postcard for his efforts. What a lovely way to learn about the wonders of nature in our beautiful world!

Polar bear collaboration

Class 6 spent part of their morning researching a member of the mammal family of animals, the polar bear. They worked in groups to read and gather fact from a text and write what they had learned.

The children showed great skills in their collaborative reading task and we found out lots of things we didn’t know before. Did you know polar bears have black skin under all that fur?

Also a massive well done to Emelia who won our learning legend postcard today for her outstanding effort in all her learning. Keep it up Emelia.

Great job kiddos!

TIME for maths

We’re looking at time in Maths this week, we started with the days of the week and months of the year. Class 5 worked collaboratively to put the days and months in the correct order. To help us we have been singing lots of songs all week too. It has been great to hear everyone practising the days of the week to the Addams Family!

Out of this WORLD!

WOW Jenson. Big well done this week for being Out Of This World for class 5. Jenson has been a superstar this week, he’s been making great choices, writing beautiful sentences about the animals we have looked at and has been displaying all of our HOWLs. Great job, Jenson, keep up the hard work!

Researchers for the morning!

Class 5 spent the morning looking at different types of animals, we practised saying the word ‘characteristics’ and ‘amphibian’ and now we are experts! In groups the children helped each other to read the fact files for different animal groups, in order to complete a scavenger hunt sheet to find out which animal groups had certain characteristics. We found out the only Mammals give birth to live babies, which is how we know what a shark must be a fish, because it lays eggs!

In the afternoon we even wrote some beautiful sentences about what we had learnt. Now, class 5 are talking about how birds have feathers, are warm blooded and lay eggs. After practising, we can say the word Amphibian and know that if an animal is an amphibian, it was wet skin, webbed feet and also lay eggs!

Reading Star

A huge well done to Olivia today for the focus she showed during our phonics session to find all the ‘ay’ words in our phoneme spotter postcard and for trying very hard to follow a very tricky text which we were echo reading in our English/expedition session

Great job angel!
