Who’s in the hot seat?

After watching an inspiring video about a young girl who was finding out just how awful the effects of plastic pollution can be on our sea creatures, created by Greenpeace, the children took it in turns to be put in the HOT SEAT, taking on the roles of the character of the girl, as well as the turtle who’s life we followed through the story and the impact the pollution had on him and his habitat.

The children asked each other some wonderful questions, about why people litter, how the turtle felt, and discussed how we can help! We thought that it might be a good idea to take your rubbish home with you to dispose and recycle where possible, use recycled or re-usable items such as bottles / containers and always be sure to use the bins when possible!

Class 5 become teachers…

Well done to class 5 today for becoming teachers and leading their own learning. In small groups we all looked at different countries, researched them and found out about the flags, the weather, the animals and even found some fun facts too!

We worked collaboratively this morning and this afternoon the children are going to share their learning, to teach each other about what they found out…

Celebrating KS1!

We have lots of wonderful children to celebrate today in KS1. What a wonderful bunch! We have lots of Work Hard, Get Smart and Be Kind champions, lots of HOWLs given this week and some awesome readers too!

Big shout out to Crew Clay for getting 100% attendance this week too! Mrs Clay’s crew have won the attendance money and are saving up for something special! Don’t forget, the crew with the best attendance each week win REAL MONEY that your crew can save to spend on something awesome.

Keep up it year 1 and 2, you are superstars!

From all of us in KS1 x

Phonics fun

Our fun in phonics was all about the ‘ou’ grapheme today. We practised with a little roll and read, reading and writing lots of ‘ou’ words and thinking of others. We even remembered that there are other graphemes with the same phoneme, such as ow.

Some superstars even managed some sentences. Lots of hard work and plenty of HOWL points given today! Keep it up, KS1!

Phonics sounds and spellings WB 21.2.22

The children have now been grouped for phonics based on their recent assessments and they will be working on sounds matched to their individual needs. These groups will be closely monitored and the children moved up as soon as they master the level they are at currently. If your child is to be part of one of these phonics groups they will have come home this evening with a postcard which indicates their group – pink, red or blue – and I will post their weekly phonic sound focus and spellings on the blog and on Classroom for them to practise for a touchdown activity at the end of each week. If you have any questions please do get in touch.

We became researchers!

Class 5 took on a research project this morning all about the 5 oceans of the world! We worked together to read information and learn some facts. Did you know that the Pacific Ocean is the largest, or that the oceans cover 70% of the earth? The smallest ocean is the Arctic. All these facts were recalled when the children presented their learning to each other. Great job class 5!

Doing the continental

I was once more blown away by how beautifully the children in class 6 collaborated on their task of locating and naming the seven continents this morning. They were even able to explain their learning to our visitors and Mrs Overson.

So proud of you all x

Phase assembly and postcard winners.

Lots to celebrate in this morning’s assembly in class 6.

Ezra, Savannah and Reeva won certificates for work hard, be kind and get smart respectively and Deacon was overall HoWL point winner. Nathaniel held on to his reading champion cup for another week and Adam joined the picture too as he missed out on last week’s celebration.

Kalab won our learning legend postcard for a day with many good choices and Deacon shared his swimming certificate with us.

Keep up the good work crew x
