WOW what a fantastic afternoon we had when Geoff came in to teach us all about the amazing ways a drone can be used to capture arial images. The children (and adults!!) loved watching the drone take off and head up into the sunny sky. We learnt all about the quadcopter style of drone, and we even figured out it was called that because of the 4 propellers it uses to fly! After we watched it take off and fly through the sky, we then got to see some incredible images that had been taken of the school and Thorne, we could see for miles! We can’t wait to share those pictures too.
Hooked on our new expedition!
As part of our hook into our new expedition – Diverse Doncaster. Where do we belong? – class 6 had lots of fun being historians this afternoon by looking at artefacts and using evidence to decide if they were reliable sources. We worked in groups to match baby pictures to staff photographs. Well done to Tallon, Lexi, Deacon, Ezra, Anais, Bobby and Hunter who guessed 5 of the 18 sets of photos correctly….
Check out the pictures here…weren’t we the cutest babies?
Family learning fun!
Class 5 had a brilliant morning of family fun, collecting up lots of resources to make bug hotels with! We used techniques like shredding and glueing that we have been looking at in art to get creative with compostable material safe for our wonderful wildlife.
Have a look at some of our work…
Key stage 1 family learning
Please keep this date in your diary… Monday 9th May 2022
In our next expedition we are looking in detail at Thorne, including the history of our school and community. We would like to invite family members to an informal coffee morning where you can have a drink and a bun while sharing your experiences of how Thorne and Green Top has changed over the years. If you have experience of living in a contrasting area too then it would be great for the children to be able to compare. Even better, if you have old photographs to share then we would love to see them.
Thank you

SUPER SHOUT OUTS for class 5!
WHAT a week this week, we have been working so hard in our assessments this week and to top it off, class 5 have had some amazing work to celebrate this morning! Here are our Be Kind, Work Hard and Get Smart post card winners this week. Everyone deserves a huge shout out though, it’s been a tough old week so far but the hard work is really paying off in the outcomes of our assessments!
Talk about making good choices…
Class 5 are that amazing, that even when they are given the choice of what to do, they still choose to do work, and represent their learning by making equations out of blocks! Keep up the great attitude to learning team, I am so proud of you all 😀

Class 5 final product requests
For our final product this term, we are going to create a sculpture out of recycled materials. In class 5, we are going to use materials such as clothes, zips, buttons etc. If you have any of these items spare that would normally be going in the bin, please feel free to bring them in to help us create a beautiful piece of art. Our aim is to be artivists, raising awareness of the damages and environmental chaos caused by pollution and humans own impact!
ITEMS WANTED:
Zips (for sea anemones and jellyfish tentacles), denim (for fish and sea), buttons (for the sea bed), wool (for puffer fish and to sew materials together), hessian bags (for the sea bed). If anyone has an old transparent rain coat or something of similar material that would also be useful to create a jellyfish!
Thanks, Miss Good and class 5!
KS1 family learning event!
Come along on Thursday 31st March to help us build a bug hotel sculpture using recycled materials. If you have any materials that you think might be suitable, please feel free to them bring along with you! From 9:15-11am.
Here are some inspirational pictures that we are hoping to recreate with you and your families!
See you then, KS1 team 🙂
