Mehndi Patterns!

Yesterday we looked in to the religion of Hinduism and at the Holi Festival. We looked at the religious festival and thought about how it might have been different during the pandemic.

We then linked our lesson to our learning about mindfulness and spent a relaxing afternoon drawing mehndi patterns.

Captain Sir Tom Moore!

Today we delved into the life of Captain Tom to find out why is such a national hero. It was very interesting to learn about his life and all of the wonderful things he did during the pandemic. He truly was a hero!

Expedition Presentations!

In Year 6 today, some children were presenting their expeditionary learning to other schools within the trust. Some of the children presented to Plover School whilst some presented to Norton School. Although there were a few nerves, it was fantastic to see the courage on show. It is never easy to present to others but they all did an amazing job of showcasing their learning throughout this expedition. Well done to all involved!

The Great Green Top Bake Off!!!

A group of Year 6 girls have been challenging themselves in the kitchen.  Every Sunday they join a zoom call, set the challenge and the timer and off they go!  Every Monday Mrs Overson, Mr Taylor and Miss Knowles get to try these delicious treats and give them feedback!  The teachers are blown away by the quality of their baking and are put to shame as they could never bake to this quality!  Check out some of their sweet treats:

Week 1: cake!

Week 2: biscuits!

Week 3: Easter treats!

I’m sure you’ll agree that their creations are amazing and I can definitely tell you that they taste awesome!!!!

As part of our guiding question, today we focused on appreciating Marcus Rashford for his influence and support during the pandemic. We learnt about his fundraising, his free school meal support and the fact that he taught himself sign language so he could participate in judging a competition. He has really been a pillar in all communities so we wanted to celebrate that by writing him thank you letters and poems!

Grappling with maths!

Some of the Y6 children in Crew Knowles have been grappling with long division for the past two days. They have used models and videos to try and teach themselves how to use the skill of long division.

I am so incredibly proud and impressed with the resilience that they have shown and the determination to succeed! They are supporting each other, coaching each other and generally just showing a real sense of crew!

Well done guys – I can’t believe how quickly you are picking up the skill!

Preparing our Product!

Y6 have been busy putting the finishing touches to their Google Slide for their expedition products today. As part of our product and celebration, we are presenting our slides via Google Hangout to some of the other schools in the trust! Our slides are an end product of all of our learning on evolution.

Tuesday Meditation!

As part of our mindfulness this week, we decided to look at and try meditation. Meditation is not for everyone but I’m so proud of my class and how they embraced it! I think it made us all feel sleepy and relaxed afterwards!

Monday Mindfulness!

In our crew sessions this week we are focusing on mindfulness. Today we discussed what mindfulness activities we might do to help keep our minds happy and healthy! Our crew had lots of great ideas such as reading, painting, listening to music and playing our favourite game!

Unsurprisingly, one they didn’t mention was exercise! However we talked about the importance of exercise and how it keeps not only our bodies healthy but our minds to!

Here we are kick starting our Monday with Joe Wicks to give us an energy boost ready for the day!
