Lest We Forget – how does war change lives?
The Second World War may feel like several lifetimes ago to some of us, but there are still thousands of people for whom it was a lived experience, something they will never forget.
Years 3 and 4 in all the Primary Schools across our Trust, have through their recent expedition Lest we Forget: How does war change Lives? examined the lives of local people and national figures – all of whom have stories that deserve to be shared.
Four beautiful books have been created, capturing times both traumatic and remarkable.
From Pat Grainger, who lives in the centre of Doncaster and remembers the Corn Exchange cellars being used as an air raid shelter, or Harry Hewitt who as a child helped the war effort by being a runner – delivering messages between the Home Guards.
The research for these books has been thorough, the original poetry and illustrations adding so much to the work that has become a valuable and treasured resource of stories from a time past, but part of our history and community.Â
Shout out to Jack in Y4 who competed in Iron kids in Lanzarote last week. Jack had to complete a 250m run, a 100m sea swim followed by another 250m run. Awesome work Jack and well done!
We spent a very exciting expedition lesson this morning by using Google Earth to investigate human and physical features. We zoomed in from a satellite to our school and compared it to a coastal location. the children were all able to identify the features and most of us could also define them by saying whether they were human or physical.
A huge congratulations and well done to Bobby for getting man of the match trophy in football. Thankyou for bringing it in to show the rest of the class. You absolute superstar!
On Monday afternoon, we enjoyed our last Kixx session and had a session where all the children put their skills to the test and competed against each other! It was great to see everyone taking part and supporting each other!
Well, this morning was such a lovely crew session with children receiving their leaver hoodies; they have been waiting eagerly for them for some time! Children are welcome and encouraged to wear their hoodies with pride for their final half term in school. I must say, they look absolutely fantastic in them! A special thanks to the Y6 staff, parents, Friends of Green Top and Adele at TOGs for their efforts in making this possible.
