KS1: Miss Rodger’s Phonics Group

Miss Rodgers phonics group have begun learning the split digraph sounds. This week they have been learning about split digraph e-e. The children have been continuing to develop their reading fluency but some of the children have been struggling with recalling the red words they have learned so far. Please practise your phonics sheets and red word sets 1-4 at home as often as possible please as this will really help your child’s reading fluency in our next set of assessments.

KS1: Miss Schon’s Phonics Group

This week we have been learning /ea/ ‘Time for tea. We have been learning to read and spell words containing our three known /ee/ graphemes. We know that some words only use one ‘e’ for /ee/ and some use ‘ee’ or ‘ea’.

I have been really impressed with he children’s effort and enthusiasm and I can tell the children have been practising their red words and reading books at home! I have heard some super reading over the past few weeks! This week we have been working on our accuracy and checking that we look carefully and words to ensure we read them correctly.

We now have a new ‘fun phonics’ session in an afternoon where we have also been learning about split digraphs. Yesterday we learned about split digraph /a-e/ like in the words cake, bake, sale, take, snake. The children loved learning about split digraphs!

Please remember to send reading books back every Friday so that I can change the children’s shared reading books in our phonics session.

Thank You

Out of School Achievements

Can you add to our new board in the Nursery entrance? We love to hear about your child’s achievements outside of school. Be it football, dancing, swimming or anything else we want to celebrate with them.

Crew Council / Extended Study- Kindness Week!

Before half term, Crew Council delivered some personalised kindness stones to show their appreciation for members of staff in school.

We spoke about how this links to our Character Trait of Compassion and how it was a rewarding experience for both those handing them out and for those receiving them.

Linking to Kindness Week – I wonder if you could show some compassion and kindness throughout this week?

You could:

  • Help tidy around the house
  • Be a good steward in the classroom
  • Shoutout for a crew member for something that they have done
  • Show your appreciation to someone in school or at home

I can’t wait to see lots of kindness and compassion around school!

Crew Jackson – Crucial Crew

Y6 visited the Lifewise Centre today to participate in the Crucial Crew programme. The Lifewise Centre provides the children with essential knowledge and skills to be able to keep safe in the local community.

Some of the different scenarios included road safety, transport safety, fire safety, water safety and a mock trial in a Magistrates’ Court! All of the scenarios are taught by volunteering experts from South Yorkshire Police, South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue and the South Yorkshire Safer Roads Partnership.

The children participated in all of the scenarios showing real maturity and thoughtfulness. Check out the slide show below.
