We will remember them

As part of G Block this week the children in Y2 represented poppies using different media and materials. These are some of the final pieces.

Great collaboration Class 9

In class 9 we compared the stories ‘Mrs Armitage on wheels’ with ‘Mrs Armitage and the big wave’. They came up with so many amazing similarities and differences. I was super proud of each and everyone of them. Keep working hard and making me smile! 😃

PUMPKIN COMPETITION

Thanks to all who have entered the pumpkin competition. The deadline for entries is 12pm today. Unfortunately any entries received after this time will not be part of the judging. One winner per phase will be announced and all entries will receive a small treat on their return to school next Monday. Details of the competition are below:

🎃🍁🍂Happy half term 🎃🍁🍂

At Green Top we are sad that family learning can’t take place as it would usually in our classrooms and therefore we have pledged to have a family learning activity each half term for the whole school community to get involved with.

The first family learning challenge will be a ‘Carve or Decorate your own pumpkin’ competition. This competition will be judged on 31st October. There can be one entry per child and all entries must be entered by a photograph sent to [email protected] by the 12pm Tuesday 27th October. As photographs are entered they will be blogged on the website for all to see. All students who enter will receive a ‘treat’ on their return to school on 2nd November.

In addition one winner will be selected from each phase. Winners will be announced on October 31st.

Conversation Starter

Do you ever ask your child what they’ve been learning this week only to get told ‘nothing’ or ‘I can’t remember’.

To try and help with this, each year group will share a specific question each week about that weeks learning to try and help get the conversation going.

Let us know if it’s useful and helps children talk about their learning.

Phonics lessons online

Parents of children in F2, Y1 and Y2 may want to explore this website https://lettersandsounds.org.uk/for-home/overview. This website provides pre recorded phonics lessons which can be used to support your children with the phonics screening check which typically takes place in Y1 during the Summer term.  This year our Y2 student are expected to take this phonics check during the second half term.

Jacob a Marvellous Mathematician

Well done Jacob for your practical maths work on adding on multiples of tens to a given 2 digit number.  Mrs Miller was very impressed with how hard you worked to use resources in the classroom to find the answers and ‘Get Smart’ in Maths.  Keep it up!

Well done Lucas and Millie!

Well done to Lucas and Millie for being Class 9 Learning Legends yesterday.  Mrs Miller and Mrs Roe were super impressed with your learning.

Lucas tried so hard to use and apply his phonics skills during his touchdown writing and was a real Stickability Stan.

Millie blew Mrs Miller away with her independent maths work knowing ten more and ten less than a number.  She then went on to complete the green standard challenge with 3 digit numbers.  What a Connecting Connie!

Out of this World Friday 25th September

Well done to Grace for being Class 9’s Out of this World Winner last week.  This was a well deserved reward as Grace joined us new three weeks into the new term, settling in so well and showing us what an absolute super star she is.  We are so proud of the amazing start she has made to Green Top and of the beautiful work she has already produced.

Keep it up sweetheart! 🙂

Last week’s awesome learning legends in Class 9

Last week we had some amazing work take place and I know that Mrs Miller was blown away by the effort everyone put in to all of their learning. These children earned their learning legends for many different things from fabulous phonics, to awesome artwork linked to our expedition, but the majority for the marvellous progress they are making with addition and subtraction in maths. Well done guys we are super proud of you all.
