Revolting rhymes fun!!!

Class 8 have enjoyed listening to revolting rhymes today by Roald Dahl. Each group took a rhyming couplet and practiced reading it, acting it and performing it.

They had lots of fun and I loved watching them working together. I was so proud to see them being brave and standing at the front of the class for their performances. Well done guys 🥰

Odd sock day

Class 8 were proud to show off their odd socks today in support of anti-bullying week.

We discussed how everyone is unique and how we should celebrate people’s differences.

Can’t wait to see what else we do this week to show bullies how they should treat others.

Great fun crew, well done

Key stage 1 competition

As part of our celebration of learning for this current expedition, we would like the children to create their own pickets and signs which relate to recycling and putting litter in the bin.

We intend to use them as part of our march in the local community on Thursday 2nd December.

Please complete and bring your picket into school by Monday 29th November – thank you!

There will be a small prize in each class for the best design.

Can’t wait to see what you create,

Mrs Shaw and the key stage 1 team! X

Children in Need – dress up day!

Next week we will be celebrating Children in Need on Thursday 18th November!

Thursday will be a dress up day where we are inviting children to wear something spotty and bright coloured! Any donations on the dress up day for Children in Need will be gratefully received.

Our school council are also holding a couple of competitions which will be running next week.

  1. Drawing of Pudsey competition
  2. Design a Children in Need T-shirt

Playtime fun

The children were busy yesterday having a fantastic playtime, choosing to play with lots of different equipment and then holding their 2 minutes silence for Remembrance. They were all very understanding and mature about it and made all of the staff proud with how they held themselves.

Well done guys!!! X x

Graffiti art in the style of Banksy

Today was draft 2 of the children creating their own Banksy artwork. They supported each other through critique with ways to improve their first draft. I can already see an improvement of the skills that they have been developing in this art cycle.

I can’t wait to see the final product.

Well done class 8

Maths blast off in year 2

We started our multiplication and division unit today with a blast off to see where the children were currently at in terms of their knowledge of times times and the reasoning and problem solving that surrounds it. There was some great independent learning taking place this morning. Well done x x x

Phonics, phonics and more phonics

Class 8 have been practicing their real words and nonsense words for the last few weeks and today they were all busy blending words using their sound buttons and deciding whether they were real words or not.

I can see a huge improvement already.

Any help with this at home would also be greatly appreciated to help with their phonics screening next week. Thanks as always for your support

Reading together

In our English lesson today, class 8 listened to the last chapter of Matilda by Roald Dahl. They then worked collaboratively to order the events.

This might sound like a simple task but to complete it successfully they had to have listened to the chapter carefully, retained the information, decoded the events, worked collaboratively and checked their group’s work.

To say I was impressed is an understatement. Well done guys, you continue to make me proud every day

Maths crew

Crew Shaw got to choose any maths equipment today during our crew session. As it is maths week we decided that our class target would be to improve our maths skills and what better way than enjoying our equipment with our friends.

Some children were ordering numbers, some were sorting odd and even, some were using money to make amounts and others were playing dominoes and a dice game.

It was great to see and I was really impressed with the smiles I saw and the conversations I heard relating to maths.

Well done crew
