We have been using the correct mathematical names for 3d shapes and have learnt the properties of them today.
The lesson began with a hunt for 3d objects within the classroom…it was great to see them so focused on finding an object and listening to their discussions about how they knew they were 3 dimensional!
Today the children learnt about habitats and did their own research into microhabitats. They all knew that the ocean was a habitat but learnt that micro habitats such as rock pools, sea beds, twilight zone and coral reefs are all microhabitats.
In groups they chose a specific microhabitat that they wanted to research more and created a poster containing information about it.
These were completely child led and they impressed me even more by presenting their work to the rest of the class.
Students in Year 2, 3, 4 and 5 have an amazing opportunity to become a Digital Leader within their class.
This is a fantastic opportunity for children to develop their own individual skills when it comes to the latest technology. Children who are successful will get the opportunity to visit XP East and potentially the Apple Store to have further training on how to use technology including iPads, MacBooks and some of the other great products that are used throughout school. Our Digital Leaders will then become the experts who can then pass on their knowledge to others.
Below is a link to the Digital Leaders website where you can find out further information.
Applications will need to be sent to Mr Taylor by Thursday 3rd February explaining why you would make a fantastic Digital Leader. This can be done in a format of your choice including a letter, slides or even a video showcasing your IT skills.
The children in Year2 were very excited to hear about the Trust’s digital leaders initiative during a special Google Meet in this morning’s crew session. You can find out more here:
Lots of the children have expressed a desire to apply for this exciting opportunity and we can’t wait to see your applications next week. Remember they can be as creative as you like and the deadline is next Thursday, 3rd February.
I am so proud of class 8 today. They have worked so hard to create a fantastic information page including all of the facts that they have learnt in the current case study.
They are still to be critiqued and edited but I am so excited to read them and think the effort they have put into their presentation is amazing!
Year 2 were busy yesterday improving some basic sentences and were very keen to share their new and improved sentences. I love their enthusiasm for learning. Well done class 8…super work hard attitudes!
Class 8 have been busy working with partners to understand the terminology of herbivore, carnivore and omnivore and then began to sort the animals into the correct category. Lots of fantastic discussions were had based on their current knowledge of a variety of animals.
Today, Year 2 have been introduced to their new spellings for the week – using the /j/ sound when it is spelt ‘dge’ / ‘ge’ . Take a look at the words we are practising below and remember to practise them for our next spelling test on Tuesday (because Monday is a training day!).
